She lives in her mind, barley speaks to anyone. She spends most of her time analyzing all the things around her life. She wants to tell someone how she feels but is scared that she might get rejected or no one will believe her. “I can’t believe you, you’re just jealous.”(184) when she finally tells one of her former friends from the party who is now dating Andy Beast, what happened and the reason for her calling the cops she lashes out and does exactly what she was afraid of. In reading and studying “Speak” By author Laurie Halse Anderson , my character analysis has taught me how Melinda dealt with her problem and what she went through to get her life back…it also taught me to choose my friends carefully and that keeping your anger and pain bottled up can hurt you more than you know.
Back from Madness Video Assignment Naomi – Schizophrenia * Naomi appeared to be abnormally comfortable discussing her difficult past struggles with psychotic disorder and her hard childhood living with two mentally ill parents; perhaps downplayed the severity of her disorder. * Claimed to hear voices constantly throughout the day, which interfered with her daily living, as seen when she explained that she sometimes could not distinguish the real people’s voices from those that originated from her mind. * Naomi explained that the voices she heard became more negative during times when she experienced stress and worry. She believed the voices and stress created a “downward spiral” for her. * Had a nervous breakdown after returning to college, prior to finals.
During her time in hiding, Anne matures, and a metamorphosis takes place within her. She begins to become more aware of not only the war that is taking place around her, but also the war that is happening inside her. This new perspective that she discovers changes her viewpoint of her mother, Peter, and also her relationship with herself. Anne matures towards her whole family, but specifically her mother. In the beginning she is bitter towards her, and isn't afraid to show it no matter what her dad thinks.
Addy was still weak from the efforts of her labour, and still sore and bleeding, but she knew she had to leave and she had to leave today" (Lansens 271). Then, when Addy loses Chick, she handles the situation in a better way: "She would not pass through the big oak doors though. Instead she climbed the fire escape stairs, stepping around Mr. Baldwin's winter wood and kindling, intent on keeping her memories at bay" (Lansens 472). Addy is able to overcome the feeling of hurt fast after the death of her second child because she already faces a similar dilemma with her first child. She leaves a whole country to conquer the feeling of loss of her first child whereas she simply decides to ignore the passage her family used to take together in her building after her second child dies.
In the shadow of her mother’s fame and success, Christina grew up in an unpredictable family environment. She would have to act presentable in public and especially to guests so she wouldn’t ruin her mother’s reputation and image. She became a victim of fame and fortune itself except it was not by being spoiled, but instead she was a victim of her mother’s unpredictable levels of sanity. At first it seems as if Christina's mom would end up spoiling her new child Christina, but it eventually turns into her mom trying much too hard to teach her discipline, often times going a little bit too far. Fame and fortune does not always take its toll on children through spoiling them, but Christina’s story shows that it can definitely take a toll on a family.
Kara has many problems in life, not only with her fathers recent death, but also with her school working disabilities. She has been having difficulties with English and while in the ring, Kara could even fear the English test she had the next day. Every day she would pray things get better and that she could be guided through her situations, but things just kept getting worse. She
A negative relationship can, in fact, be the catalyst for a search for identity to emerge. It is often through these negative relationships that people seek alternate relationships that will help them on their journey of discovery. In Lonesome Howl, Lucy’s detrimental relationship with her family led her to start questioning who she was. Years of constant abuse led her to begin her search for identity. She felt, however, that she could not go on such a journey by herself.
Yet the horrid act of violence leaves her fearful about recording the event. When Mary states she has stood for worse, the act of violence reminds her of what she dealt with as a child and her abusive father. Although she has worked hard to try to forget about those times and distance herself from that experience, the violent act brings her back to those time and with that comes the fear of speaking
These types of abuse have something In common: someone using methods (for usually a man, but occasionally a woman) to control their partner and sometimes other family members. Many women endure domestic violence for years. This is because sometimes feel they "deserve" or justified by the presence of other problems such as addiction gambling, alcohol or relationship problems. But no one deserves this abuse and no excuses that warrant. How can protect women and their children of the family
Due to her reclusive behavior and lack of human interaction she has fallen into recession, not bothering with outdoor activities or socialization. These symptoms in conjunction with the proximate birth of her daughter have made it seem clear that Sofia is suffering from postpartum disorder. As a result of this, it was recommended that Sofia seek out a therapist or counselor. The function of the therapist is to promote the patient’s analysis which directs towards having the client experience themselves and their motivations, working to better understand that which is within, both values, assumptions, and ideals (Mulhauser). While there are a many possible process through which counseling may be sought, that of person-centered theory or client-centered therapy is that which is most relevant to Sofia.
