Although Antigone and Creon both exemplify the characteristics of a tragic hero, Antigone is heroic for standing up for what she believes in while Creon is cowardly. Antigone, being the tragic hero of the play, has to make the decision of giving her other brother a proper burial or not, which puts her sister, Ismene, and her life on the line. Even though Ismene says.... which means she doesn’t want to be involved with the whole situation. Antigone is careless over the whole situation even if that means burying him may kill her. She was not afraid to admit to the burial.
The reason to Conrad’s suicide attempt is his mom's acute coldness towards him shows her ultimate despise of Conrad because she blames him for not dying instead of her favorite first born son. After his suicide, Conrad is asked to see a psychiatrist by his father. Cal tries to bring the family back together, Beth, Conrad and himself, but fails to do so. Beth never once visited Conrad in the hospital and barely checks up on him to see if he was asleep. She began to shut herself from her husband and most importantly, her son.
Like Leon, Jon keeps all his inner feelings and thoughts to himself after his daughter, Eleanor, has been murdered. However, unlike Leon, he never shares his feelings with Valerie until it is too late to do so. It is his inability to communicate effectively and honesty with his wife that drives their marriage further apart and causes her to suffer from all sorts of mental problems such as paranoia, confusion and fear. John denies Abigail saying that it will never happen because he loves his wife. Their relationship isn’t the strongest but love is there. This so called love drives Abigail to accuse Johns wife of witchcraft so that she is to be hanged for committing sins against the bible. She thinks that killing Johns wife would make him love her even though John has told her otherwise so many times already. Her actions actually hurt John greatly throughout the story.
Societies’ perception of a person can be very subjective. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, a woman named Hester Prynne has a baby out of wedlock with the minister of the town, Arthur Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale feels a tremendous amount of sorrow and guilt in his soul for not publically repenting his sin as Hester Prynne was forced to do. When Dimmesdale does decide to repent, the townspeople choose to turn a blind eye to what happened even though they witnessed it with their own eyes. Hawthorne creates the characters Dimmesdale and the townspeople to show how society only believes something about a person that isn't the whole truth because they want to make that person seem like a good person, even when they find out he’s
Atticus is defending Tom because he knows that he was falsely accused. Scout and Jem have to fight to keep calm. Scout is able to keep calm through all the teasing and backbiting because she has promised something to her father and does not like to let him down. Scout has faith in Atticus because she knows that if he fights, it's for the good always. She has no racial prejudice against Tom but her growth is almost incredible as she comes to understand all the prejudice against her father's client and that he will lose the case simply because Tom is black.
