This building is located in the center of Barcelona, and as time has progressed, it has become one of the most universal ways to identity the city. In other words, when you think Barcelona, you think of the beautiful, must see, La Sagrada Familia! This building is visited by millions of people every year who wish to study its architectural and religious content as well as marvel at all of its splendor. The Architect that started this monuments project was Francisco de Paula del Villar; (1828-1901). Even though he began this project by the end of 1883, it was none other than Antoni Gaudí who was commissioned as the lead architect to carry on the construction of La Sagrada Familia. This was a task that he took full pride and dedication to. Antoni Gaudí was “an architect with a very strong personality and with an incomparable imagination for forms”– Jose Maria Carandell. "The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is made by the people and is mirrored in them. Gaudí said, “It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people.” Gaudí had his own plans; instead of carrying out the original plans which was more of the neo-Gothic style, Gaudí drastically changed the design to his trademark modernist style, which was constructed based off forms found in nature. After taking on the responsibilities of this project in 1883, Gaudí constructed the crypt, which was completed in 1889. As he began working on the apse and the cloister, everything progressed at a good pace thanks to all of the donations
