We attended a Greek Orthodox Festival and while we were there we watched people dance to Taverna-Style music, we ate Gyros, Dolmas which is herbed rice and beef rolled in a grape leaf, and we also had Keftethes (Greek meatballs), and Spanakopita (spinach in filo). That day we met some of the nicest people that made us feel a part of their family. By attending community events to celebrate different cultures can bring people to together which could be the beginning of people in the United States getting along with each other instead of being prejudice against one
The campus was bustling with students motivated to learn. Most of the students I was able to meet were international students like myself. This made me feel even more comfortable walking around the campus. One of my favorite things about Boston was the delicious seafood. If you made memorable impression on companies at the career fair, many of them would invite you out to dinner at some of the best restaurants.
I went on to kindergarten and then elementary school, I made lots of friends but most importantly two best friends who live in my neighborhood, actually they’re my neighbors. Our parents meet and before I knew it I was at their houses on a daily basis, I would often eat dinner with my best friends. They’re both Puerto Rican, I got so accustomed to the food they would eat that I began to dislike Colombian food, which was something really difficult for my family to accept. Now that I’m 18 years old and have visited Colombia multiple times, I appreciate the native dishes from there more than I have in certain
Ethnographic Observation For my ethnography project I chose to study the life at a restaurant located on my college campus called Connecticut Hall or Conn for short. Conn Hall is generally filled with hungry college students and professors from the university. I chose to do my observation around seven o’clock on a Wednesday evening, which seems to be Conn’s busiest time of the day. Along with eating at Conn almost everyday, I took extra time to thoroughly and discretely observe several groups of people dining in my surroundings for nearly two hours, and this is what I found. For the students and faculty at Southern Connecticut State University, Connecticut Hall seems to be fairly inexpensive because their meal plan provides them with unlimited visits to eat as much food as they please.
People from all over the country have donated money to this organization because just to keep it operating and putting smiles on families faces. Companies from all over the state of Mississippi donate materials and tools and supplies for these homes can be built. Food is donated from different restaurants so the builders can eat lunches that I help serve. This is a great an amazing organization. On the weekends I walk to the site where they are building a home for a family.
My husband’s family usually meets at his grandmother’s house and we eat the food that she has prepared for us. This is her old family tradition which includes turkey, ham, dressing, vegetables, green bean casserole, and desserts; she says that she will always carry it on. My family always picks a dish that each of us would like to bring and we meet at my parents’ house to eat the food that we have brought. The menu varies from year to year but usually we have the basics ham, turkey, vegetables, and deserts. Our family has decided to help out with the food as it makes us feel more involved.
Even as a child I have loved the ideas of helping people lead healthier and more productive lives. When I was younger I would ask many questions about the ways things were. By choosing a health career, I will be able to make a difference in the lives of people who are sick or disabled. My life has been filled with various situations that have helped me choose this career. The main influence is my mother; she is a nurse at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Some skills that I have received from my mentors and supervisors that I have had the privilege of working with are that I have become more comfortable in public settings, improving my verbal skills on a professional level and having to draft letters of intent for field trips, fundraisers and order forms which has greatly improved my written communication skills as well. I believe that these skills that I have obtained throughout my year of tutoring can gravely benefit me in the full time classroom setting. Over the past year, the AVID Coordinator has been training me in
I believe through time management skills that I have learned and obtained while participating in mentoring programs and volunteer services, I can maintain and sustain my GPA at the highest standard that I have set for myself in order to achieve multiple scholarships to top rank universities such as, St. Mary University and Incarnate Word University that I have selected to attend. As a member of the NHS program I believe it will serve as a pillar in my life to great opportunities and future development on
I come from rosaries and hand made tortillas. Waking up every day in the summer to the smell of roasted crushed peppers on the molcajete filling the air and roosters screeching is what has influenced me to take such pride in where I come from. Spending each and every one of my summers since the age of five in Mexico, learning and getting in touch with my roots. Learning and experiencing what it was like for my parents, my grandparents, and ancestors has helped me appreciate where I come from a lot more. When surrounded by family and having such strong faith in God, there is always someone there to help you and guide you.
