I.Introduction The love of money is the root of all evil. Nigeria is a Country situated in the West Africa region, it is a Country with dense population of over 140 million inhabitants, and most importantly, it is a Country that is very rich in oil. Nigeria is not only the 6th largest oil producer in world, it is also the 8th largest exporter of crude oil. Most of Nigeria’s oil comes from the Niger Delta which is sometimes called the Oil River. The Niger Delta has a lot of regions that generates oil but one of the popular places is Ogoniland. The Ogoni people are predominantly farmers and fishermen". The Niger Delta has been involved in many international controversies such as pollution, human rights violation, and many more. The main focus of this paper will be on the human rights violation in which Royal Dutch Shell was involved. Royal Dutch Shell is a multinational oil and gas company which has its headquarters in The Hague in the Netherlands. Royal Dutch Shell has been engaged in a variety of atrocities and it has been sued by many human rights organisations but the four most popular lawsuits that were filed against Royal Dutch Shell are; Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum co. Wiwa v. Royal Dutch Petroleum, Wiwa v. Anderson, and Wiwa v. Shell Petroleum Development Company.
