Al-Qaeda, the terrorist group that he founded in the early 1980’s, has been encouraging other minor terrorists to take action, making the world an over-all more dangerous place to live. Among his fellow terrorists, he is a revered hero, but all over the world, he is seen as a villain, a power-hungry monster greedy for power and attention. Because of bin Laden’s treacherous deeds, the United States has lost over 100 billion dollars in revenue, billions more by invading
One obstacle that today’s president Barack Obama had to deal with was the capture or death of the notorious terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Ever since the attack of 9/11 Bin Laden had been on hiding no here to be found. When President Barack Obama became president there was pressure on him to capture this terrorist, since the Bush administration failed to do so Obama wanted to close this chapter of the war on terror. The only way to end this Obama had to be successful on capturing or killing the most wanted man in the United States. After years of searching for Bin Laden the CIA had gotten a break in late 2010.
U.S. forces had fifty four killed and 425 wounded in the initial invasion in November. By December 23, when the operation was officially concluded, the casualty number had risen to 95 killed and 560 wounded. Estimates of insurgent casualties are complicated by lack of official figures. Most estimates places the number of insurgents killed around 1,200 to 1,500 with some estimations as high as over 2,000 killed. Fallujah once known as the City of Mosques, had 60 of it’s over 200 mosques destroyed.
But I don’t feel that way. What ever happened to all of those people who were placing negative bets on the airline stock that plummeted that day and then never claimed their money? I’m sure they knew something, or know someone who knew more than they did. The people who murdered Shah Massoud whom those in Afghanistan said were Pakistani ISI trained killed the only person capable of being a real liaison between a post Taliban government and the world. But we didn’t want an independent thinking man.
Years before 9/11, we exploited Latin American countries and left their people impoverished. Prior to that, we started a war with Vietnam, one which the CIA grew extremley rich off of, and destroyed the country. Today, whether 9/11 was conspiricy or not, we destroyed a country which poised no threat to the United States what so ever in Iraq; and it's going to
Afghanistan has a long history with the United States, but reached its peak in September 11, 2001 when the world trade center was taken down. Fifteen out of 19 people involved were from Saudi Arabia, but America had intelligence that led them to believe Usama Bin Laden was responsible and he existed in in Afghanistan, so the Government was told to give him to the American Government for prosecution. The Taliban leader who ran the Afghanistan Government was Usama Bin Laden’s son-in-law and refused to give Usama Bin Laden to America, so America declared war on Afghanistan. This declaration of war was under the guise the Government supported terrorist actions against America, they wouldn’t release Usama Bin Laden and America was under constant
Brittnie McGee 11/29/11 US History 142 “A Demonic Spirit” Have you ever wondered how a person could have such a demonic spirit? Why would someone have the desire to kill millions of innocent people? Did he ever have any remorse for any of his actions? How could he command his followers and be responsible for several terrorist attacks against the US when we were the country who originally had his back? Was he ever going to get tired of planning to cause destruction in major cities in the United States?
The death of Osama bin laden was predicted to have a negative effect on functioning of Al-Qaeda group as they lost their head and would undergo structural changes. (John Rollins, 2011).The first problem was the friction in the succession process; the Al-Qaeda needed to get a leader with charisma equal to Osama’s to lead them. Thou not as inspiring and loved like Osama, Ayman-al-Zawahiri was chosen (Col.John Maraia 2012) He had problems finding a deputy; this limited Al-Qaeda effectiveness and potentially exposed them to counter terrorism efforts. Zawahiri had to build his own image, strive and earn loyalty and trust from heads of Jihadi groups so as to construct connections between Al-Qaeda and its affiliated organizations and networks. He has to learn how to motivate the homegrown terrorists and how to recruit more members into the Al-Qaeda’s military.
It’s been four years since a group of US Navy Seals assassinated Osama bin Laden in a night raid on a high-walled compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The killing was the high point of Obama’s first term, and a major factor in his re-election. The White House still maintains that the mission was an all-American affair, and that the senior generals of Pakistan’s army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) were not told of the raid in advance. This is false, as are many other elements of the Obama administration’s account. The White House’s story might have been written by Lewis Carroll: would bin Laden, target of a massive international manhunt, really decide that a resort town forty miles from Islamabad would be the safest place to live and command al-Qaida’s operations?
The raid and killing of its ring leader tremendously crippled the group. Notably, the killing of Osama bin Laden opened a path for other major killings of the al-Qaida gang leaders. For instance, as of last year, the U.S intelligence team claimed to have killed about half of al-Qaida’s top 20 leaders in attacks and raids by armed drones. Some of these bin Laden’s lieutenants claimed to have been killed include Ilyas Kashmiri. Ilyas was considered as one of the most dangerous strategists and operational commanders of al-Qaida.
