Rosa Parks: The Modern Civil Rights Movement

Most historians date the beginning of the modern civil rights movement in the United States to December 1, 1955. When asked to give up her seat, Rosa Parks stood up for herself and her rights as an American to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. African Americans were ordered to get on the bus, pay, and then step off and board the bus from the back in order to sit down (Rosa Parks Biography -- Facts, Birthday, and Life Story). Although, whites had the right to sit anywhere, this was the era where whites and blacks were to be separated, therefore; blacks had no choice. In fact to this day, it still is not fair. African Americans may be able to sit at the front of the bus and the schools may not be segregated; but it is still a hard life for many folks. If everyone in the society today could outspoken and Mrs. Parks, we would not have so many conflicts. Unfortunately, all good things do come to an end and Mrs. Parks died on 24th October, 2005 of progressive dementia (Rosa Parks Death - When Did Rosa Parks Die?).
