12/25/12 Roman Soldier Letter Dear Mom And Dad, As we speak now we just got back from a successful battle, and Caeser has now overtaken the power of Gaul. In the future I will feel a big regret from the many of lives I have taken. I am a horseback with a sword and a strong fighter. The life of so many innocent people is easily taken with the swing of a sword and the gallop of my trusty steed. Very interesting stories have been told of people lost in battles by the fire every night. But the fact is that you destroy or get destroyed. Friends are made and lost in battle. They are at all time by your side in such situations. I made a close companionship with a good man named Tetris. He was in my legion and we would train like we would in battle.…show more content…
Especially after watching my best friend loose his life with my own eyes. I still think of him to this day. It is as if I am becoming desensitized. I hope I do not sound dramatic but I fear that I will become like the majority of the citizens of this beautiful and yet ultimately doomed empire. I am strongly considering a change of careers, something less unfulfilling. Perhaps a man that makes healing medicines. I have always loved to help others. I only want to choose a profession in which I am not killing a innocent man for politics, power or base pleasure. Each week and sometimes a couple days in a row we have to walk to places miles and miles away. We also build camps in only two to six hours. Before battle we gather our stuff so we are ready for anything. After all the sweaty, hard work, all I get to rest in is a tent with seven other soldiers. It is really crowded and people wont go to sleep because of the horrors of war. During the daytime we practice with each other. I used to do this with Tetris. What you might be curious or concerned about is about our weapons. Don’t worry all of our weapons they are well mad. They are actually simple and not hard to understand. There is a short sword and a throwing spear called a pilum. It was a easy task for me to throw the pilum. Especially when I practice everyday you tend to learn fast. Another weapon I carry is for protection. It is the large, rectangular shield that curves around my body. This protects my whole body and stuff that may fly up in air. So don’t trouble yourself because I am very trained and protected. I am also equipped with very well made weapons. The practices we do are really meaningful to me because I get more skilled after each one. I think my muscles are gaining each day. It is a very rough journey through training and war but I feel I am strong and can make it through. I shall write again soon. We head north to set up camp and reinforce some of our brethren.
