In the dug-out just above me a poor chap is lying very ill but has asked me to say nothing to the medical officer as he does not want to get sent away in the middle of the fun, as he calls it. Of such stuff are soldiers made – I think if I were in his place I’d be glad of an excuse to get out of this Hell, though I don’t think I should ever have forgiven myself if I had not come. I hear that to-morrow we are going to make a charge – the Turks are cutting our supplies off; the situation is severely critical. To read this in a newspaper makes an item of passing interest; to experience it is something quite different – if we are up against it, please God I may die in the same spirit that I know my comrades will display, for they know not
That night, his old partner Jacob Marley, who had been dead for 7 years, visits Scrooge as a ghost. Chained from his feet to his arms, Marley comes to warn Scrooge how miserable his afterlife is because he was more worried about money and business, than the well being of people when he was alive. Scrooge: "But it was only that you were an honest man of business!" Jacob Marley: "BUSINESS? Mankind was my business!
It is first shown through the major scene in the story, the death of Eugie. Arnold abandons his brother after his death by just standing up, leaving the body and picking peas, he does not call for help. This theme is also illustrated through the boy’s relatives. His uncle, Andy, portrays a negative obstacle set in front of him. Uncle Andy made Arnold feel abandoned and hurt when he stated “Not a tear in his eye”, this statement proves to show that his uncle did not care for him at the time and did not help comfort him.
He was only a victim of the insanity his parents put him through from being isolated from society. Mr. and Mrs. Radley had no right putting Boo away. It was clearly unethical. Boo Radley should come out and rejoin society so the town can assuage their fear and ignorance of him. There are three main ways Boo would benefit the society by rejoining them.
He slept on the couch that night, because he didn’t want to wake my mother with his cold sweats, and shivering all night from the side effects of coming off that drug. Later that night, about 2:30am we ate a sandwich together talking, after I ate I went to sleep for the night. Two hours later my mother came to my room crying I had asked her what was wrong and she stated “Louie is dead he hung himself in the garage.” I instantly started to cry and ran upstairs to find my step father hanging in the garage. That challenge had affected me
He knew it would be unpopular. He did not know how bad it would be. Before being removed from theater, he spent several months sleeping with a loaded pistol under his pillow. His home town has branded him a traitor. His family has stopped talking to him.
Hassan has taken the blame for Amir their hole chidhood whilst they shot nuts at the neighbors dog and here he takes the risk of being attacked by Assef in order to get to the fallen kite for Amir. His kindness only emphasises the horror of the scene because it contrasts completely with Amir's inability to step up and protect his friend. Amir only thinks of himself and his want to please his father whilst Hassan thinks only of Amir “for you a thousand times over.” Hosseini doesn't give a detailed description of this scene. Every time it has the potential to become graffic, Amir takes his mind off of the situation. Only about a page and a half reflects the duration and the word ‘rape’ is not used.
In essence, his parenting style is to ignore his children unless he wants to abuse them. The parent in To Kill A Mockingbird that most closely resembles the parents we’d see today is Walter Cunningham. Cunningham is a hard working, poor farmer. He’s taught his children about hard work and seems loving, but there is an incident where he leads a mob to lynch Tom Robinson at the jailhouse. He’s eventually convinced by Scout to not lynch Robinson, because Cunningham has a responsibility to his children.
These people have invaded our land, locked up our families. They caused your dogs to die, Ellie and they tried to kill you three. What homer meant here is that these people don’t care about what is happening they came here to take over and he is saying that he will not stand by and watch his country get destroy but to help them and help to get his family and friends back. There was a scene in the novel where Homer tell fi that he has feeling for her showing he has courage to tell her that.Throught the novel/Movie homer act way different then he was he loves his group like a family and isn’t the boy he was at school. And I’ll do one for
Lennie was very isolated also from the ranch workers because he wasn't normal and acted very childish, this mustn't of been nice for Lennie and that is how the ranch is unpleasent for him. Carlson made Candy's life on the ranch very hard because he depised Candy's smelly old dog, in the book Carlson kills the dog because it was old and it stank but he never cared about how Candy felt about the dog he just cared about himself. Carlson killed the dog eventhough he knew how much Candy loved it, when Carlson suggested killing the dog “Candy looked for help from face to face” but nobody helped him. The reason why Candy couldn't stop Carlson from killing his dog was because he was a very brittle old man and was mainly over powered by people stronger than him. This event was very unpleasent for Candy.
