The professional development meetings inform the teachers of how to incorporate rigorous learning into their lessons and also explains what the district expects to see from the staff. To meet the goals of our action plan, the teachers need to align their lessons with the core curriculum. Professional development helps them stay on task with these strategies. Principals also use out-of-district professional development classes to refine any weaknesses of the teachers in our school building. For example, if a teacher has a hard time with classroom management, our principal will suggest a professional development to address classroom management skills for that particular teacher.
Planning influences what student will learn, because planning can transform the available time and curriculum materials into activities, assignments and tasks for students so time is the essence of planning. (Woolfolk, Margetts, 2010). To promote effective learning and teaching, implementation of quality plan is significant. Planning should include all the essential ingredients of effective teaching to model the commitment to learning. Effective teaching should acknowledge the impact of factors such as attitudes, perception, expectations, abilities, gender, socio-cultural background and maturity on every learning experience.
Student records, attendance, achievement and disciplinary details will be some of the information kept. By assessing need I can gather the information required to enable me to plan and design a suitable learning experience that can be delivered satisfactorily. My responsibilities are many and varied; from ensuring that the course delivers on its aims and outcomes to satisfying the students’ learning needs both from a course material perspective and any further assistance they may need to complete the course. By making good use of the assessment and evaluation parts of the TTC I will be able to ensure that I am meeting their needs and that the course is delivering the content and standard that is expected. Establishing good ground rules at the start of the lessons are an important part of the teacher’s role to ensure everyone has clear expectations within the classroom environment, this helps to ensure appropriate behaviour and respect for others within the class.
I will also look at behavioural patterns within classrooms, from this I will see how behaviour can be kept under control to make the classroom effective. I will collect information from many sources, this will help me to gain an understating from teachers own experiences. It will also give me information to explain how behaviour and other aspects in the classroom are dealt with effectively. No matter how well designed the material, or instrument of delivery is, teachers must consider many relevant factors during implementation, and presentation of material; material and delivery must accommodate a persons learning style. Moreover, teachers must educate their students on learning styles and preferences, this will provide the student knowledge, which will enhance their learning and educational experience. According to Gravell, (2012:18), the main role of the Teacher is to help learners achieve their chosen programme. Gravell went further to explain that this can be achieved by using various teaching and learning methods whilst taking into account learners individual needs. As a Team leader in the Princes Trust I will wear many hats: friend, judge, mentor, different roles for extracurricular duties. When I say mentor it means many things from a role model to coach to confidant, someone I believe who encourages positive behaviour this could be with the use of more responsibilities in the class room.
