Some believe that minorities deserve an advantage considering their under representation, under privileged backgrounds, and other disadvantages. Other people believe that these college admission policies are absolute ludicrous and think that college admissions should be based not on race, gender, or religion, but on credentials alone. Since the late 1960s, many accredited American colleges and universities have used affirmative action policies in their admission's process. College administrators believe that minorities, when given the special opportunity to be accepted into a selective university, are able to accomplish many positive things in society. Affirmative action promotes a positive and diverse population that would not be as positive and diverse without universities adopting these policies.
Diversity works to change the culture of that organization. Diversity realizes the value in a mixture of varying cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. So, instead of accomplishing the diversity of college students admitted, it is acting as reverse discrimination. What is affirmative action though; it is the practice, which emerged in the 1960s as a result of efforts by the civil rights movement to get America to honor its original contract, that "all (people)are created equal." This process is done usually by institutions of giving preference to racial minorities or women when hiring, giving awards, or deciding whom to admit.
The school gives special treatment to the students so they could have better or higher grades and they could go to college. Secondly, the teacher should give special treatment in high school students by giving them extra time to teach so that they can maintain their grades to above average. The students should also maintain their high grades so they can stay in the team. If the player demonstrates his athletic skills, the college recruiter will offer him a full college scholarship. Lastly, students could get a better job after college.
The one thing that separates whites from these other groups besides skin color is the fact that for each minority group, there are several scholarships that pertain to each. As a nation we have placed a great deal of emphasis on making sure the minorities are getting equal opportunities, but we forget that there are members of the Caucasian decent that need assistance as well. Most times minorities are the ones that need financial assistance in a college situation, but we have forgotten that there are white families that have grown up in the same neighborhood as these individuals, who also need financial assistance. This is why the idea of a white-only scholarship is not so unrealistic. A group of students attending Roger Williams University have created a Whites-only scholarship to initially protest affirmative action.
Because of this the people with the lower social class may say something that they think the other people want them to say, rather than saying what they actually want to say. Another strength of using group interviews is that when researching the social classes and the university applicants it can tell us a reason why we don’t see certain social classes in university. When doing these group interviews you can gain crucial information about the reasons why people don’t attend
2 or 4 year degree | Comparison and Contrast Analysis | This is a comparison and contrast about getting ready to make an investment. Students who put the time and money into a four-year education will reap the benefits throughout their lives. Though four-year schools require at least twice the amount of time as two-year schools AND three times the tuition, they offer students on- and off-campus learning opportunities you simply can’t find anywhere else. | 2/13/2013 2/13/2013 Community colleges and four-year colleges and universities are institutions of higher education. Although they all play important roles in educating students and helping people get their start in life, it helps to keep their basic differences in mind as you think about which may be better for you.
I believe that if hate speech codes were put in action in every college and university people would see a drastic decrease in racism on college grounds. For one, if it’s clear that racist, hatful comments will be reprimanded; many people will keep racial comments and gestures off of campus grounds in fear of being sanctioned. I feel that when campuses eliminated racial hate speech out of school property, it opens the opportunity for heated educational debates that teach people to disagree more civilly. Also, allowing debated on race and stereotypes without the use of racial hate speech gives a platform for people with opposing views to become less ethnocentric, and more tolerable to different opinions, and
To cut the story short, the minority may have better academic scores or performances, they need to face the reality that opportunities of employment and promotion are still being mainly preserved for the white. So, before discussing the racial, gender makeup of the police force resemble the makeup of the community it serves, we cannot oversee the obstacles of the minority of being put and promoted in certain selected career field. If we trace the growing diversity that now exists in American police departments, meanwhile, we will not be surprised that the disparity and ratio of racial, ethnic, gender makeup of the police force to the communities is outstanding. All police departments are called on to enforce the laws and maintain public safety and public order. In order to better facilitate public safety and serve the communities, better strategic designs, tactical approaches, organizational structuring are expected.
It would allow students in college to go out and enjoy themselves without being stressed out about breaking the law, as well as possibly lower the number of alcohol related injuries and incidents. Also, a lower drinking age would promote a higher sense of responsibility in young adults. I feel that lowering the drinking age to eighteen is something that should be considered to better the lives and futures of people
The first is a history of discrimination, with affirmative action laws recognizing the fact that many people have been excluded historically from jobs, schools, and social endeavors, and that in many cases, this historic pattern of exclusion has created disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages are the availability of the same education for all. Affirmative action was designed to give special preferences in education, admissions and employment decision to groups that have been discriminated against in the past in order for them to be able to receive the same opportunities as anyone else. There are a number of arguments against affirmative action, with critics calling it "reverse discrimination" and arguing that it enforces barriers between people, rather than breaking them down. For instance in education a certain number of places are held to fulfill their quotas for African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, and women.
