Targeting Women: New York Times Policy Paper 2 Reproductive Rights While many continually work to safeguard the foundation of reproductive rights and health that have been established, they are those that will fight to control or suppress those rights. There are plenty that seek to transform how we think and talk about reproductive rights and many work to connect reproductive rights to human rights. The World Health Organization defines reproductive rights as: Reproductive rights rest on the recognition of the basic right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual…show more content…
Abortion has become such a contested issue in this country that we’ve lost sight of the role abortion plays in many females lives. But if you stop and think about it, every woman’s situation is different and many things can go wrong in a pregnancy. Every woman deserves the opportunity to make the best decision for her circumstances no matter what her decision may be. Many woman do not plan to have an abortion, but if she needs one, insurance should cover the procedure just as it covers all other pregnancy related care. Are we headed backward, toward a time when many women found it impossible to access legal abortion care? Those days of back alley abortions led to many deaths, infections and dangers that I felt we had overcome. While I would not choose an abortion for myself due to my beliefs, I feel that others should have the same right to make their OWN choice. The article doesn't give much background or history on the fight over abortion or reproductive rights yet the author never gives away which side they are on. While it is a strong factual article it could be stronger with more facts from both sides. I had to search for Kansas states argument for the law because it was not in the original article from the New York Times. I feel that anyone that reads this article may feel like they could not make a well educated choice about which side they agreed with because the author left out many other arguments from…show more content…
