Carmen Espinal Mrs. Ranes ENC1101 December 8th, 2013 Remediation Analysis America has always been characterized for the acceptance of large amounts of immigrants and the cultural diversity that gives the nation its complex culture. However, integration of cultures and immigrants becomes a complicated process when the immigrants themselves raise boarders around them and limit their experience to ethnic groups. In order to express my opinion more efficiently, I chose to remediate my essay into a short video that would target recently arrived immigrants, specifically college students. I chose to direct my video to all those foreign individuals that desire to complete their education in the United States. The purpose from my previous essay also had to be modified to fit this context. What was an informative and argumentative written paper was modified into a much more inspirational piece. Through this video my purpose is mainly to encourage foreign students to take some actions that will make their college experience much more enjoyable. Because my video was more directed to immigrants that just went through the transition to a new country, I tried to eliminate most variables that would complicate the communication between my audience and me. In order to achieve this, I completely eliminated language out of my remediation, relying only on expressions, actions, and music. This decision was key to ensure that every member of my intended audience was able to watch the video and obtain the same information as someone from a different background. To fulfill my purpose, I decided that it would be important for me to show the before and after of making that decision and the benefits that decision brought to the student. After all, reaching out of the comfort zone takes courage, especially if that involves different cultures and different languages. Throughout the video I tried to present some key scenes that communicated the differences between confining yourself to an ethnic group jut because it seems confortable, and exploring beyond your boundaries and merging with the students that surround you. To achieve this, I start the video showing an immigrant student that only relates with peers from his homeland, but this causes him to have trouble understanding his classes and homework. Then,
