Biff has learned or at least acknowledged the truth about his own life and his father’s life. He learns that he is nothing and no one but may be someone one someday. Throughout the play Biff has adored Willy; he believed his father’s stories and accepted his father’s philosophy which was that a person will be successful if he is “well-liked”. Biff was taught to do whatever it took to be successful even stealing and cheating. Prior to his trip to Boston everything changed he saw that his dad was a fake which meant that Biff was also a fake too.

This once inner conflict soon becomes an outward conflict between Biff and Willy. Willy has a particular standards which he holds Biff to. Willy wishes for his eldest to be a salesman, as himself, absent-mindedly forgetting that his other son, Happy, has completed such a task and became the one thing he wanted for Biff. Willy is quite critical of Biff’s life choices, seeing them as failures, while Willy is losing his worldly possessions, his family and even his health because of said profession. Willy, himself, conformed rather than following his brother to Alaska, Africa or anywhere else.
Bo won the Heisman award in football and will be the number one draft pick in the NFL. But the problem is, Hugh Culverhouse of the Buccaneers wants to draft him. Bo doesn t like Culverhouse at all, so he tries to make Culverhouse trade him. Culverhouse won t do it. Culverhouse also messed up Jackson s college baseball career.
Through dialogue and tone we understand that Homer is quite distant from his father. After his father saves the miner’s life Homer proudly says, “That’s my dad,” but as his dad starts to yell at the miner, he again says, “That’s my dad” but this time with an embarrassed tone. Through this technique we are able to see that while Homer wants to be proud of his dad because of his lack of compassion he feels uncomfortable and uneasy around him. This scene is also shown in a very dark and dull colour, which reflects how Homer feels coldness towards his father compared to the rest of his bright life. When John Hickam sees his son and enquires to how the football training went, close camera angles show us the disappointment that Homer experiences on his face and as the camera cuts back to John we see how he thinks his son is weak.
Cory has been presented with an opportunity and Troy is too stubborn to accept, or even listen to the benefits that Cory will reap. Troy believes that Cory will be better off working at the A&P, even though Cory will benefit from going to college and playing professional football. The animosity between them strengthens through the play, and they start to get into real, physical fights over their disagreements. An internal conflict that Cory faces at the end of the play is the choice to go to his father’s funeral or not. Cory still feels anger towards his father even after his death, and is eventually persuaded to attend his father’s funeral by his mother.

My Actions, Your Consequences In the play “Fences”, the character Troy is a very interesting one. Troy is a fifty-three year old man with a powerful love for his wife, Rose, and tough love for his son Cory. Troy doesn't always listen to people, he does what he believes is right at the moment to prevent any bad things from happening or any problems to occur. He just wants his family to live a practical and responsible life. Troy affects everyone's life with his choices, his mind set and past experiences in life which causes a negative affect on them while at the same time it matures them to grow up.
