First the writer tells you some good reasons for having a sale. For example, If you need to make money, clean out extra stuff you own to make more room and even if you just want to meet your neighbors and the locals. The writer then explains smart and helpful prep ideas, like how to use a rope in your garage to make a long clothes line. I learned the best days of the week (Saturdays) and times of the year to have a sale and how to be courteous to your neighbors. The essay written with a positive tone and I would say it’s closest to reportage-style writing. The writer covers everything on the topic. I felt the purpose of this paper was to inform the reader about all the positive and beneficial aspects of having a sale. It’s definitely helpful and instructional for those who have never done a garage/yard sale before. While informing you of what is great about having a sale, the writer tells you some specific instructions on how to do it yourself. The person who wrote this seems to enjoy having sales for making some fast cash or to clean their clutter and wanted to share that with people who are similiar and need a solution like this one. I found this essay very effective and motivational actually. After reading this, I did think about what I could do to have a sale. The writer used common and relatable words that flowed well; I read this paper without any pauses. There was an up-beat tone through the whole paper, making me feel enlightened while reading it.
