Without access to social media a brand can become lost. It would be beneficial to any brand, large or small, to utilize social media to expand their brand awareness and enter into new markets. Twitter grants one-on-one interaction with our consumers. This makes us more approachable, we are viewed as people instead of a brand. It created trust between us.
I chose the topic of the social media for many reasons. The first reason was because I like going on Facebook to chat with my friends. The second reason was because I go on Twitter all the time to see what my favorite music and movie stars are doing. The last reason I chose this topic was because I like going on social networks and so I wanted to find out how the social media affects the people that go on it and how it help spread information. Methodology I took several steps in conducting research on the social media.

Josh states, “I recently asked the question to my face book friends: “Twitter, Face book, Foursquare … is all of this making you feel closer to the people or farther away?” There would be a lot different responses because some people might agree and say that it does bring me closer to people and other might say no, it keeps us farther away from people of our age. I see people intertwining with the use of social media in and out on a daily basis to keep up with life. The use of social media technology is also being used in the education world and is becoming increasingly more normal in classrooms all across our country. There are handful of benefits behind the use of social media in an educational system.

People can show off their children or the birth of a new born baby. Another advantage of social media is that a person can market their business. Social media can attract people to your website from links that are advertised or shared by a friend or consumer. With social media a person can meet new people in their area and also meet new people in their state, country, and around the world. Some disadvantages of social media are cyber bullying, harassment, and stalking.
Companies, specifically companies that target individual consumers, cannot ignore this marketing channel, despite the risk associated. Mr. Dunn acknowledges that social media allows Best Buy to develop personal connections with their potential customers, connections that ultimately influence their purchasing (Dunn, B., 2010 p. 5). By actively joining in the online conversation, Best Buy’s leadership must accept that they are giving up control of their message. Best Buy can try to steer the conversation, but it cannot filter every discussion so it reflects positively on Best Buy. This opens the door for unflattering events to take place online beyond their control.
I believe that social networking has multitude of pros and cons and it is based on how it is used. I also feel that social networking can be helpful as well as harmful based on whom is using it and how it is being used. Social networks allow people to connect for a variety of reasons in a digital environment. Professionals might join LinkedIn to meet business contacts, MySpace to find a band member, or Facebook to see pictures of old friends and meet new ones. My husband and I are a perfect example.

I believe that this is a powerful statement, because there have been countless times that I have logged onto my Facebook and they have had popups telling me to share my phone number and all of my personal information and in my opinion when you log onto your networking site you don’t want to share all of your personal information. Its also a way for businesses to reach their customers other than tv and billboard ads. I use social media everyday including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more. It allows me to connect with people I do not talk to everyday. They are also fun and a good way to waste time.
