The marine gate at Pompeii suggests that Pompeii was a very busy port. Jaye Pont’s research into red slip pottery also shows Pompeii had a wide trade network. Images of the God ‘Mercury’ who represented prosperity, are found throughout the town, and inscriptions have been found in houses which paid tribute to the pursuit of profit e.g. a mosaic floor in one house has the words; “Profit is Joy” Evidence of agriculture is shown by the number of gardens (horti) inside the walls of the town and working farms (villa rusticate) outside the town’s walls. Wine and oil were the main source of income for the people in the Vesuvian area.

In “10 Mary Street”, the poet’s home serves as a metaphorical tie between family members as the repeated inclusive first person pronoun “we” highlights the intimacy they shared. The security of belonging is established in the simile “like a well oiled lock” and accentuated in the hyperbole “guaranteed for another 10 years” to demonstrate Skrzynecki’s view that belonging to a place is just as strong as belonging to people. Like the protagonist in “The Arrival”, Skrzynecki was able to assimilate into society by becoming “citizens of the soil”, the metaphor revealing the secure sense of belonging achieved from forming solid connections to the land. Furthermore, the monotony of daily rituals “hiding the key…washing clothes” is ironically embraced, revealing the essence of belonging entails being comfortable in a safe and familiar environment. In stark contrast to “Feliks Skrzynecki”, the poet show strong cultural connections can consolidate a sense of belonging, as highlighted in the personification “we kept pre-war Europe alive”.

The house is pretty big it has lots of room and it has many different features. As you can see in the pretty the house is gorgeous. I really fell in love with the home once I saw it from the inside and it so beautiful from top to bottom in the inside. I reason I was able to see the inside of the home is because my family stay down and cross the street from the home I
One important feature is the support beam in the middle which represents the guardian spirit of the home. Homes are always strategically placed near water, family and the fields. When selecting the location, it is tradition to leave rice on the ground over night or a stick in the ground, if the rice is there or the stick becomes longer the location is acceptable. The Hmong tradition is most commonly passed down orally. Their language was not written until the 1950’s and was made possible by western missionaries.
Primitive people had conceptions of phenomena with whom they lived daily that could qualify today, after centuries of scientific advance of magical realism. Nevertheless, in some cases, its charm has not diminished, and in others, the knowledge of their ideas and practices continues to be an incentive for curiosity. In many primitive peoples believed possible to choose the sex of the baby through the intervention of rites. Thus the Cuna Indians, American tribe, were accustomed to go to inatuledi, a shaman lower. When I was a child desired, the shaman was in charge of fetching flowers that look similar to the female genitalia, which would be used for an infusion that pregnant women should take.
Through ceremonies, song and dance, art, rituals, hunting and cooking (Rose 1992, p. 45), the elders of the Indigenous Australian community pass on the stories to keep The Dreaming alive so that the young generation know where they come from. The level of family goes far beyond that of what I know where my own experience and stories only go back as far as a great grandparent telling personal accounts. Seeking further knowledge would require my own initiative and record searching through history to find my origins. The beauty of The Dreaming is the knowledge forever being passed from generation to generation going as far back as creation. The richness of the stories told and the meaning, sometimes hidden, fills me with a deep sense of respect towards the Aboriginal people.

One of their most important beliefs is to preserve their ancestor’s cultures and land. Today, many of the remaining Native Americans still manage to preserve the same culture. Because they were the first ones in America they have influenced Americans in many ways. Their culture has influenced America since the Europeans arrived up until today in the way we speak, the foods we eat, our religious beliefs and even some of our family values and traditions.
