They tried to keep all the criminals separated from each other at all time as much as they could. It was almost if they were there to repent for what they have done and to think about the concequences. There was very little physical punishment. Only when it was needed. The principal goal of a penitentiary was it to be a place to express regret for the wrongdoing one has done.
From that day on I felt differently towards you. It wasent just the fact that you ignored me its the fact that you ignored everyone who always tried to be there for you in there best form of showing they cared for you. So guess what Hannah Baker I stole your encouragement notes from class. I knew what went on with you and I feel more than guilty I couldn't stop you from killing yourself or even taking away those
The writer indicates that they put down him because he is short. Gretel shouts at Bruno because he entered her room without knocking, Bruno knows it is bad manners but he was bored and went running in to find her. Gretel uses irony to secretly tell him he is wrong and should leave, he does not understand the irony because he is only 9, which causes Bruno to be confused and stay anyway. Gretel treats Bruno like he is stupid by the way she talks to him; “How would you know? When you get to my age you’ll understand things a lot better.” When Gretel first peered out of Bruno’s bedroom window and sees the Jews, she questions “who are they?” She stood for a long time staring at the people on the other side of the fence then after a while she finally said “this must be the countryside as they must be farmers” For the remainder of the book she no longer asked about or appears to think about the people again.
It therefore leads to the aim of deterrence being successful as the individual will never want to commit a crime and return to prison. This also covers the aim of rehabilitating the offender’s behaviour. When going further and looking at why the individuals don’t want to return to prison, the simple answer is due to the awful experience. It’s been said that they want to have a better life for themselves and the best way to do this is by staying out of prison. Another reason the prison system is effective is because the offender’s get to attend specific programmes that have been assigned to them which contributes to helping them in the future, for example drug rehabilitation treatment.
The article says, “The alarm clock goes off…in your room. Not Mom’s room-not Dad’s room-your room. Take responsibility for setting your own alarm clock” (Goldsmith 14). This shows that the swimmer realizes to get better she has to want it enough to do stuff on her own. She always double checks her swim bag before she leaves, making sure all of her gear are inside.
They do locker checks to make sure there are no drugs or weapons as well. Our privacy was completely taken away due to the delinquency of just a few. Cellphones were no longer allowed, as well as reading tablets and cameras. Basically we were in a prison. You’d think that taking away our things would help.
In the excerpt entitled “Murdering the Innocents” from Charles Dickens novel, “Hard Times”, the reader is given a glimpse into Britain’s school system in the 1850’s. The passage tells of a very stern school headmaster, Thomas Gradgrind, who has no room in his life or in his teaching methods for unnecessary facts, slang or the social devices of language that he deems a product of laziness and idiocy. When questioning one of his students, he is very critical of everything she says, no doubt in the hopes of righting her “laziness” before it spirals out of control or infects the rest of his class. While Gradgrind’s classroom might seem unreasonably strict, and in many cases, unsensitive or cold, such was the way the education system was at that time. But can any aspects of Gradgrind’s methods be incorporated into today’s educational system?
The characters in “Greasy Lake”, no doubt had intensions of causing some type of trouble. For example, the narrator states, “There was a time when courtesy and winning ways went out of style, when it was good to be bad, when you cultivated decadence like a taste. We were all dangerous characters then… We were bad” (T. Coraghessan Boyle 77). These three guys live at home and smooch off their parents. They have no earthly idea of what life is all about.
Bullying is such a big subject now because it happens to everyone. Our principal at North said “It isn’t bullying until it happens twice.” But that’s not always the problem. Sometimes a person can say one thing to you, and it can ruin your entire day, week, or even month. I don’t understand why people bully each other, maybe because they’re so insecure about their self they need to bring others down with them. Maybe they don’t get enough attention at their house, or maybe they want friends but they can only show their mean side because they are actually scared of getting hurt themselves.
If I wasn’t perfect, I was a failure and a disgrace to my family. My family never said anything to implement this in my head, but I guess the implication of perfection being ideal planted the idea in my brain and made me want to attain it. If I ever slipped up even a little, if I got a B on an essay, or gained any weight, I called myself a “disappointment”, “weak”, “ignorant”, and “stupid”; So I’d lock myself in the bathroom and punish myself.
