Homework; the Gateway to Succeeding. Homework is the key to success. It is something that must be done in life. Although many people complain about extra work, it is beneficial to them to do it. Homework is helpful because it trains students and adults in the subject one is studying or learning. Doing homework will enable one to be successful in sports and other extracurricular activities. An article by Wayne Goldsmith talks about the daily routine of a successful swimmer. The article shows how the swimmer takes it upon herself the responsibilities to do what she has to succeed. The article says, “The alarm clock goes off…in your room. Not Mom’s room-not Dad’s room-your room. Take responsibility for setting your own alarm clock” (Goldsmith 14). This shows that the swimmer realizes to get better she has to want it enough to do stuff on her own. She always double checks her swim bag before she leaves, making sure all of her gear are inside. She says the most important thing to succeeding is doing her homework. “Homework time. Swimming is cool. TV is fun. Hanging out with friends and family is the greatest…but homework always come first” (Goldsmith 15). One has to have passing grades to be able to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities. And if one wants to go to play a sport in college he or she must have good grades, depending on the college they want to go to. One must also do homework on the sport they are playing. One will want to know what to do and when to do it. A coach should study their opponent’s style of play to be able to plan a defense to stop them. In addition to doing homework to be successful with sports, one must do homework to excel to the next level of life.
