We communicate with many people for many different reasons. Write a short explanation explaining: • The different reasons why people communicate • The outcome effective or ineffective communication can have on relationships Communication is used to greet people – to establish who we are and introduce ourselves on first and subsequent meetings. To satisfy needs - People communicate to give and receive information and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, depart knowledge and share ideas and information To express needs; put across their feelings and emotions, reassure and encourage others and show they are valued. Social interaction - To establish and maintain build relationships; socialise and to ask questions and share experiences. Self expression - We define our individuality, beliefs, values, wishes and our personality. Controlling people in the environment - This can be by giving instructions or in some case orders. Service users communicate with staff to express their needs and preferences. As a project worker I would discuss the options and choices available to the individual to allow them an informed choice regarding their support. Communication with other staff members ensures effective team working and continuity of support. It is important to have good effective communication skills to ensure high quality support. Effective communication skills ensures information is being passed on efficiently between other staff
