Searching in different schools, I found that this program has a bunch of resources not only solid basics of nursing theory , but also nursing practice as well as clinical experience that will give me the opportunity of been successful in different practice situations. The fact of been able to have an integral education, joining theory and practice in the first year of study is one of the reasons I choose this program at Ryerson University. Furthermore, I think Nursing at Ryerson would make me not only a student with excellent communication skills, but also more compassionate, knowledgeable and a health care professional capable to lead and influence the health care field. I am very impressed with all the tools and resource the university has to offer the students experience clinical scenarios and situations as well as the facility of learn and practice nursing skills in an environment almost the same as the real hospital life. Study in one of the leaders in nursing education as is Ryerson University would give me the best education and formation to be a successful professional.
Being there made me scared but encountering the nice nursing staff and doctors made me feel more secure. I would always ask questions like do you love you job and what made you become a nurse. Getting those answers and having those experiences made me feel more competent about the career choice that I was playing on pursuing. As I got older I began to do research on the field and I learn that it was not only a rewarding career but it was an auspicious one also. Nursing is one of the few careers
I feel that I have always had a connection to nurses in the medical field. I have always known that one I would love to help deliver babies and be a part of that support team for a new mom who is not really sure about the events that are going to happen. I remember when I had my
He has A1 diabetes. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a nurse because of him. I would go to the hospital with my aunt once I got older and I would watch her take care of her patients. Seeing how happy she was helping others and how happy the patients were having her as a nurse, to this day, makes me want to step up and fulfill a nursing degree. Becoming a nurse will make each day a great difference, not only for me, but for the patients I will be taking care of.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in the computer technology field. Achieving my Associates degree will definitely improve on some of the skills I already know and have gained for myself. I want to interact with people who are in this field of study.” I believe” this will perhaps surround me with people who may play an important role in my future success. Academic and Professional Goals Alan M. Gavami Walden University Dr. Miriam Ross Academic and Professional Goals Currently, I make positive societal change with one patient at a time by showing genuine care and understanding of how they are different with different needs. This is one reason of several that I chose Walden University, since Walden has a keen awareness and teaching on multicultural competence, I find this to be Paramount. Managers in today’s healthcare environment are much more involved in management, planning, cost containment and efficiency, while providing a better work environment for the hospital staff, and better care for the patients and their family. The skills I expect to gain through getting my master’s with Walden University should give me the ability to recognize and understand problems we face on daily bases in the healthcare system. With this knowledge I plan to work toward a more cost effective and delivery system with healthcare provided to the patient population.
The week was very interesting and I learnt a lot about the role of the health visitor and where they fit into the wider healthcare team. I was also given some insight into how the health visitor implements the Healthy Child Programme and the barriers faced in meeting these requirements. This brought about lots of conversations about the Health Visitor Implementation Plan and how this will increase numbers of health visitors in order to provide a better service to families with children under 5 years. I saw a lot of follow up visits and started to better understand how important this support was to mothers of young infants. My mentor aimed to identify any issues early on and signposted families to Sure Start in order to build on their support network.
Bringing together education and healing was a life-changing experience that made me realize that nursing is my true calling. Traditionally, nurses were viewed as caregivers. In today’s world, image of nursing profession changes as nurses play many other roles such as patient’s advocates, educators, managers, team members, facilitators, and experts. (Zerwekh, 2006). As I read the entries from my reflective journal, I could see how my focus shifted from assisting patient with his basic needs at the beginning of the nursing school to more comprehensive nursing care today.
Counsellor which is a process helping the patient recognise and cope with the problems. Leader influences others to work together and understanding goals to motivate people. Manager to manage work load as well as situations. Kozier, Erb, Berman, Snyder, Lake and Harvey (2008) Having worked in the care field as a residential care manager and also being a mother I see myself as possessing various skills which is inter changeable with nursing. Which has helped me to incorporated these skills into my daily life.
Problem and crisis management, counseling and advising, are tasks that arise with my teaching duties on a daily basis. I am proud of my students’ and my own mutually respectful and productive relationship and my communication and leadership capabilities. These are the skills and strengths I would bring into the setting the nursing internship offers. As a result of the opportunity to work daily and intensely in this setting, I would gain invaluable new experiences and skills, particularly in respect to socio-economic, home care, and community needs. My cultural sensitivity and awareness would be broadened, and I would be better prepared to deal with these issues in my future as a nurse, no matter where I will be working.
