Pros and Cons of Globalization

Globalization Essay The term, “globalization” is defined as, “the increasing global relationships of culture, people, and economic activity.” By definition, globalization seems to be an extremely positive incorporation into the economic world but it does render disadvantages to countries as well. In this essay I will be discussing the disadvantages and the advantages of globalization, and whether or not improvements need to be made. Most economist in the world would say that globalization is ultimately very positive because it is a beneficial spread of liberty and capitalism throughout the world. This would include developing countries because it gives them a higher degree of political and economic freedom in a democratic form. Another example of an advantage that globalization presents is an open economy allows for new innovation for ideas. Living in today’s digital world, we are constantly looking for the next new exciting gadget, and these type of products have a high world-wide demand. The importing and exporting of these inventive products generates high quantities of revenue, which result in a more powerful economy. Globalization also improves economies in developing countries but it allows them to export their rare resources that are demanded around the world. For example, the country of Sierra Leone, is a developing country and is famous for one of its main exports, diamonds. These diamonds allow for the state of Sierra Leone to have a tradable good world-wide and it allows for economy boosts. Considering that high quality diamonds are one of most sought after entities in the world, this puts Sierra Leone in a position where they can minimize their dollar margin and give them more economic freedom. However, some of the examples that I have provided, contain a double edged sword because they do improve economies but in a morally clouded way. The diamonds
