ENGLISH ANALYSIS How does the writer of the Ovaltine advert use nouns to fulfill it's purpose?, The writer of the Ovaltine advert fulfils the purpose to the purpose to the advert, to persuade by using a range of nouns. By using the abstract noun "long lasting source of energy", the reader is encouraged to see the product in a new light so it will appeal to a wider consumer market such as athletic and sporty people. Another abstract noun which attracts a wider/new audience is "strenuous activity" as it could be referring to an activity such as sport or even sexual activity. This attracts a wider audience as they may be edged to drink Ovaltine before participating in strenuous activity, as the writer highlights that this is what Thai people do. Similary, the writer uses another abstract noun in a persuasive way, "kick of the day", this highlights the benefits of the product and makes the drink sound like it has positive effects on whoever drinks it, giving them a boost throughout the day. Furthermore abstract nouns are again used to demonstrate the positive effects, "small wonder", it shows that instead of Ovaltine being drunk only before bed, it has a variety of uses, as it goes on to tell about the effects being good on sports people in teams, therefore making it a "small wonder" which will appeal to a new audience than the stereotyped older generation that drink it in England. In addition, the writer adds the "goodness of malt extract", this makes people aware off the health benefits, attracting them to the product and persuading them to buy it, again appealing to alot of people as people are interesting in products that will benefit there health.
