Explain why it is important to work in a way that embeds person centre values. The care you carry out on a day to day basis should always be centred around the person you are caring for . You are not there jut to meet there physical needs but to maintain their sense of being a person and their identity. This involves you establishing a supportive relationship with the person, involving respect and trust. You should be listening to the service user, despite any difficulties, understand their emotional needs and preferences and learn about their history.
I had to maintain a professional behavior as well as one who was friendly and receptive to what was discussed. At no time was I to be bias in any form. The main objection was to explore the benefits in, which both mentors would share that could be constructive to any effective coach or mentor. Characteristics of an Effect Coach or Mentor According to Rita and Stephan an effective coach should be an active listener because everyone he or she would share information with was important. Active listening skills are identified as to focus completely on what an individual is saying and is not saying, and to convey the desires of the person through his or her own self-expression (ICF, 2014).
When dealing with people, facts must be the key. Service users must be able to communicate freely to you, and this may mean communicating in a way that they can understand. This may involve using pictures or writing, using your hands or items in the home. Whichever way you choose to use, you must ensure that the service user understands you. You must always be an active listener, and understand the content of the message, whether verbal or written.
Being able to communicate with a service user so that you can understand their needs and that they understand you is very important to ensure proper is being provided and that freedom of choice is being promoted. Effective communication between colleagues and other health care professionals are just as important as this ensures that everyone involved in providing care is fully aware of all relevant information and that the care is being provided is consistent and respectful of the individuals needs and wishes. 1.3 There are many forms of communication not just talking. People also communicate through, facial expressions, body language and gestures, that’s why it is important to observe an individual whilst communicating as only 70-80% of communication is verbal, meaning that you could miss out on a large part of communication if you are not paying attention to the other aspects of communication. Posture is also a good indicator to how a person is feeling.
Make everybody aware of the communication needs and preferences of the individual so there are no communication issues. Ensure people involved address the individual directly and ask questions, giving them time to respond and express their opinions. Give two ways that a risk assessment can support the right of an individual using the service to take risks and make choices. They identify the potential benefits and balance these against the potential danger or harm and identify how the danger or harm can be reduced so by doing a risk assessment you are allowing the individual to take part in what they choose but ensuring it is done in the safest way possible. Explain how the responsibilities of all concerned with the care of an individual can be supported by a risk assessment It can be supported by a risk assessment because having a risk assessment ensures all concerned about the care of the individual that they are under safe care as all risks have been identified and found a way to prevent them etc.
Unit 207 – Understand personal centred approaches in adult social care settings 1.1Define person centred values - This is to ensure that an individual is at the centre of planning and support. Also upholding and promoting individuality, choice, dignity, privacy, rights, respect and independence and partnership. 1.2Explain why it is important to work in a way that embeds person centred values - It is important that we work in this way in order to promote individuality which this allows individuals to make informed decisions and choices as well as understanding the consequences also possible risks of such decisions and choices that may well relate to their own health and wellbeing. We must do this within the appreciation of rights within the care value base. We can uphold this by empowering individuals to maintain their own independence.
This includes the use of any available resources such as hoists for the moving of residents and ensuring training is up to date by attending all relevant courses. We also have a duty to report any concerns in the care administered by completing relevant forms, such as accident / incident reports and the use of the whistleblowing policy if necessary. 2.1 It is important to distinguish the balance between an individual’s human rights without breaching health and safety issues which includes that of the individual, yourself as the carer and anyone else around you. An example of this could that whilst respecting an individual’s rights of choice to partake in an activity in which there is a high level of risk, then as a care worker we have a duty of care to ensure that the individual and others like the public and colleagues are kept safe by adhering to the health and safety guidelines that will be in place which could mean certain areas of the activity may not be able to done. 2.2 There are a number of ways to gain additional support and advice when needed.
When communicating with clients make sure that their preferred method of communication is used and make sure that any specific aids they need are available such as hearing or seeing devices and any additional resources such as translators or signers can be organised if required. Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication. Make sure that the client feels comfortable within the working environment. But ensure from a safety point of view that any local requirements, such as physical exit route is available One of the most important roles in effective communication is body language Make eye
If I was communicating with a professional I would be communicating in a formal manner mainly By verbal communication backed up by email or letter correspondence. 1.2 Explain how to support effective communication within own job role Within my role I support and communicate by various methods, this will depend on who I am communicating with i.e. service users, Families, care workers, social workers, doctors, pharmacists. It is important when talking to clients and their families that I communicate well, ensuring that all communication is personalised to the client and maintain confidentiality at all times. This level of communication is important to support the building of a positive relationship with their care worker and myself.
Secondly, I need to be aware of my behaviour and its impact on others. I also need to project positive energy to the work environment and constantly provide encouragement to staff. To be a good role model means I have to be diplomatic and treat everyone the same; there can be no prejudices or preferences for people. It is important for me to respect people and their viewpoints, always listen to people and make people feel valued and lastly always act with integrity and professionalism. To be an effective leader requires certain traits that are either inherent to a person or can be learnt.
