Principles of personal development in adult social care settings 1.1 The standards that influence the way adult social care job roles are carried out are indentified in my employer’s policies and procedures, my job description, safeguarding procedure and care standards. 1.2 Reflecting on my work activities is an important way to develop my knowledge and skills because it helps me to realise what I know and what I’m good at. This is done through supervisions and appraisals which I should always have to help me understand how well I am doing my job. 1.3 I would ensure my personal attitudes and beliefs do not obstruct the quality of my work by making sure when I come to work I leave my personal beliefs behind and do not bring them into the work place. I would do this by making sure I follow my job description and always ensuring that I have boundaries between personal and professional relationships. 2.1 My reflective account on my food hygiene course is an example of how a learning activity has improved my own knowledge skills and understanding. 2.2 A situation I can reflect on that has improved my knowledge skills and understanding is a time when I have had to call for an ambulance for a resident. I have had to do this a few times and was very nervous about this at first. But now I have learnt to stay calm and know exactly what to say on the telephone by reflecting on previous occasions I have done this and by taking advice from management and colleagues and by being aware of the policies and procedures. 2.3 Feedback on my appraisal has helped me as I now know what parts of my job I am good at and where I need to make improvements.
