The Prince and the Pauper (A profundity reading test) Submitted by: John Baloloy Submitted to: Mr. Jay Apejas I. Literal level 1. Tom Canty I am Tom Canty, I was born on a certain autumn day in the second quarter of the sixteenth century, I was lapped in my poor rags and I belonged to a family of paupers.. We lived in a foul little pocket called the Offal Court, out of Pudding lane. That place was small, decayed and rickety, but it was packed full of wretchedly poor families. Father Andrew was a kind person who taught me and other children how to speak a little Latin and how to read and write. My family was a family of beggars, I have 2 sisters, namely Bet and Nan. They were 15 years old and might I add, are twins. My father was a cruel man who beats me, mom and Bet and Nan. He beats us whenever we come empty handed from begging. But, I was not unhappy with my life for I had the freedom that I wanted, such as splashing through mud and swimming! But I have one dream, a dream that a pauper can hardly fathom. To become a Prince 2. Edward Tudor I, Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales, was born on a certain autumn day in the second quarter of the sixteenth century. Born in a castle as a future king, I was laid on silk and was dressed in royal garments that had embroidery made of gold. I had everything as a prince, except for one thing, and that thing is freedom. At this moment all I knew was royal customs and the handsomeness of our kingdom. But I never truly saw what was outside this fantasy world of mine. That was until I met a pauper that was beaten by the guards. As a prince, I had the responsibility to rescue those that were abused and hurt, so, I took him and he changed my life forever. 3.
