At first it seemed he might live to see another day. Sadly, he died the next day from his wounds. Another thing that happened to slaves, in Uncle Tom’s Cabin was they were treated as property, instead of human beings. For example there was an auction held in which the merchandise were slaves! In the auction scene slave families were ripped apart from each other.
It was very hard to look at and see all the cruelty and things that went on with the slaves after they had been captured, due to the fact they had been minding their own business a significant amount of years and then someone comes along, suggest that Africans are not to be treated inhuman and turned into a slave. Finally once had reached to their destination, slaves would be auctioned off. I learned from this movie that slaves fought back. They realized what was going on with their lives and took control of that. I was not aware that they actually went to court and was faced with murder, didn’t know that this happened.
The Native Americans have been affected by disease by the Europeans, during this period European settlers brought many different technologies and their lifestyles with them, but the most harmful effect is their arrival and the spread of their diseases. The most harmful disease that the Europeans have brought was small pox. The disadvantages are that the Local tribal customs were destroyed or forever altered.
For example, during the French and Indian War, British commander and chief Jeffery Amherst suggested using smallpox to wipe out the Native Americans (D'Errico, 2010). When these new disease were introduced, the shaman or medicine men were baffled and unable to heal the ailments. As a result of the natives’ shaman being unable to cure their people of these diseases, the natives began not to believe in their healing powers. However, many of the indigenous that did not fall to disease, were captured for slavery. Many people believe that slavery of the Native Americans was a result of the Europeans colonizing the New World, but it was not.
There are many impacts of colonisation on the indigenous populations. Once the colonisation started the indigenous people lost everything they had believed in. The pints that will be examined during this essay are the following their loss of land, when the war began, they spread of diseases .The purpose of this easy is to provide people with abit of information on the colonisation affected the indigenous people. Wars and mascara’s is one of the negative impact that occurred to indigenous people once the Europeans colonised. Firstly, the reason why was began was because the British government wanted to make land for farming.
Death was rampant at this time. Diseases such as smallpox, measles, malaria, influenza, and yellow fever were transferred from the old wold to The Europeans had been exposed to these sicknesses before and had different cures and ways of fighting it. But when the Indians caught wind of these illnesses they were devastated by the effects. There tribes were very susceptible, through the air and through touch. They were a more isolated human, so when the Europeans came and took over there immune systems were not at all prepared to face and fight back al;l the diseases that came there way.
In the ninth chapter of her book, Jacobs mentions that “If a slave resisted being whipped, the bloodhounds were unpacked, and set upon him, to tear his flesh from his bones.” These methods were used to spread fear upon slaves, and lead them to be fearful to try to escape. After I read the part where a slave who had been tortured by her mistress raised her hand and dealt two blows on her dead mistress’ face saying as she was doing it “The devil is got you now!”, I had mixed feelings. I thought it was good for the slave as she was able to ease her pain slapping the mistress; at the same time, I thought it was sad because slavery made the good woman stoop to the level of disrespecting a
Asian, Hispanic, Native American's and African American's. African American's were considered the lowest level, and were forced into slavery. They were abused and often times killed if they did not do everything for an American. Native American's were drove off of their lands by the white European people. The whites wanted the land for themselves so they more often times than not killed, beat and burned down the Native American's homes in order to show who was more superior.
He had a rough relationship with the Natives Americans. He kicks them out of America and formed an ally with the Cherokee Chief. Who soon betrayed Andrew Jackson and went with the British. Jackson fought them in the war of 1812 and thought they were of an inferior race. He burned their towns and crops and killed women and kids.
Some slaves tried to run away to crowded port towns and hide among free coloureds whilst in larger countries some ran away to hidden villages in the interior and in the case of Jamaica and Suriname, maroon and bush negroe villages. Those who didn’t run away, injured themselves and worsened existing injuries so they would not be able to work whilst other even committed suicide. Also mothers had abortions or they killed their infants to affect the natural growth of the slave population. Slaves also tried to overthrow the system by sabotage and malingering. These methods affected the productivity and profitability of production.
