Position Paper on Faculty Jerrold Tarog’s short film, entitled Faculty, provides us with the argument: Should teachers in an expensive, private college setting be allowed to use activities to provide or teach social awareness and responsibilities to their students? I think teachers in that kind of setting should be allowed to do so. These students would be the ones who would succeed their parents as the next generation’s influential people. Who else would be the next leaders but the college students who are the ones that are next in line? And if they won’t be taught properly then history would just repeat itself and our country would forever be like its present not that nice state. Who would want a stagnant, worsening country? Even those students themselves wouldn’t want that. They should be socially aware and they should know the responsibilities that they must fulfil for their country as well as its people. One of the major causes of our country’s present state is its people’s unawareness of what is happening. Filipinos especially the future leaders of our country should first be aware of the problems before a solution can be formulated. How can someone know an answer to an unknown question? A great quotation would be from the movie Spiderman. “With great power comes a great responsibility”. Since they come from influential families, they will be powerful in the future since influence and money can already be considered as great power. They should know how to use it not for personal gain but for the benefit of all. In the short film, Rhea, the realistic teacher, said that social awareness and responsibilities should’ve been taught to the children by their parents. According to Filipino values, the teacher is a student’s second mother. And I think that if the parents of a child failed to supply something crucial like social awareness and responsibility to
