Most students don’t want to disappoint their teacher and having to appeal to the teacher for not having the homework turned in on time, So they will make sure to keep up with their work and what is expected of them. By having requirement like due date allows students to be mindful of prioritizing and time management. For teachers, building these bonds with students helps to develop an extensive repertoire of strategies, tools and methods
However, text messaging has been a major problem with students texting in class interfering with the disruption of their learning. Most teachers express how they feel about cell phones being a distraction to others, however very few students have complaints about the use of cell phones in class. Text messaging in class should be allowed by choice of the students, it can easily be discreet and the possibility of an emergency. Text messaging in class should be allowed by the choice of students. In the argument “Tapping into Text Messaging” by Janet Kornblum, says teens, techies and other early adopters leading the charge to text say it is a great way to communicate when they are too busy to talk or when making a call would be rude or impractical.
By allowing certain behaviors to occur without consequences the teacher is sending the message that it is okay. This can cause the students to lose focus and a decrease in understanding of the lesson being taught. It can also allow chaos to reign supreme. Disruptions can also make other students feel threatened. Students must feel safe and secure in their class in order to learn and grow in education.
It is important to lay some ground rules and then stick to them. Rules such as not allowing phones should be adhered to by both the student and the teacher. The same goes for punctuality, not eating in class, respect for each other, etc. Fairness and mutual respect are important in gaining the trust of students The way a teacher conducts him or herself is important. - Students learn best when they are relaxed and feel safe.
Also teachers need to make sure all the equipment the learners will be using during the course is safe for them to use. Ground Rules. When starting the course, a teacher should make sure they create a safe environment in the classroom: this means making sure everybody is comfortable with everybody else and nobody is trying to bully anyone. When working with adult learners it could be better to have ‘commonly agreed ground rules’ so they can agree with each point and find elements to discuss. This is good because when they get to decide the ground rules it’s more unlikely that they are going to break them.
They had to respect each other’s background, language and history. So they could maintain peacefulness in the class. Moreover, “even the curriculum has to convey respect” (47). Rose clearly expressed that respect was not only politeness, but also an intellectual dimension in schooling environment. Generally, safety and respect created a healthy environment for students to study.
This is an expectation most teachers have, since raising your hand when you need to talk allows for less distraction and more control of the classroom. If all the children decide to talk at the same time it would create chaos. 2. Arriving to class on time a. This is an expectation, since this also allows the teacher control of the classroom.
Adding to this, the pronunciation of their words has to be clear, loud, and slow insuring their pupils understand what they have to do without any problems whatsoever. For example, when we are in class, the teacher has to conduct her lesson in a manner which we all can understand; this is done in a clear, loud and slow way. When using verbal communication, teachers use a variety of questions to their pupil to get them involved in the lesson and to find out more about them. For example, a teacher every so often gives out homework assignments, when the homework is due; the teacher asks the pupil “have you done your homework?” The student will then answer. Another example of this is, when a teacher is conducting a lesson the teacher will test a pupil by asking him/her a question about the work.
Reflection of Effective Classroom Practice and Identify Learning Points In my observations I have seen a variety of styles of teaching and different approaches to effective classroom practice, however, there has been a consistency in classroom management. All teachers have ensured the class are lined up outside the classroom quietly and will check their uniform is correct before entering the class, ensure no-one is chewing gum etc. The pupils are expected to come in quietly and settle themselves quickly so the register can be taken. Failure to do so has resulted in making them line up again until they are quiet and entering the room as expected. All teachers seem to have their preferred ways for the basic management of a class; a request for quiet, hands raised to indicate silence, when they stand in a particular place the class know it is time to listen to the teacher; others can silence a class with a certain look!
A teacher may be able to do a lot of things to avoid behavior problems. I believe in few well-defined rules and lots of procedures. Structure in the classroom and procedures that the students know how to follow will provide stability. When the students know what is expected of them then there is a natural flow to the classroom. The stability in the classroom is necessary to meet basic needs of students.
