Platos Ideal Society essay In the Republic Plato talks about what he believes would be the ideal society, in other words what he thinks would be the perfect society which would bring peace to the whole world. He explains that in his ideal society people will all live a harmonious life and not have to fear violence or material possessions. It is important to realize that people have been trying to create the perfect society for years and all have failed trying to. I do not believe that it is possible to have this ideal society that Plato envisioned. I feel that no matter what happens there will be violence and their will be betrayers. I believe that it is impossible for this world to go on lacking violence. Each part of the world is known for different things, some places are known to have their oil, some places are known to have gold, and other scarce or rare materials. If this world lived by sharing all their materials peacefully at no cost their would not be enough goods to go around for everybody, in result to this their will be violence which would go against Plato’s wishes. Also if we were to continue to sell these materials we would also be going against Plato’s wishes. Plato wanted for people not to worry about being wealthier then another, this would not be possible if we had to purchase these scarce materials from other countries. Another reason I believe that Plato’s ideal society would not work is because I believe people are naturally selfish and we always want what is best for us. In my Economics class I have learned that when a person is in a group and is forced to make a decision he/she would choose the option that would benefit those most. If Plato’s ideal society was to be created people would continue to want what is best for them. Every country would want the needed materials for them causing conflict. This would go against Plato’s wishes.
