A theme that relates to the story is "war has no boundaries." It goes with the story because the sniper was trying to kill his own brother without even knowing, and when it comes to war you're going to stand by what you believe in even if it means going against a loved one. "The Sniper" has many literary devices. One literary device being used is dramatic irony. When the sniper takes the risk to smoke, the reader knows that nothing good will come out of that and that he is going to be spotted by the enemy.
This speech is very powerful and when someone is feeling unmotivated and depressed it has the ability to stir you to focus. Henry knew that he was sending his troops out into a battle they would lose but instead of dwelling on this Henry convinces his men that the battle is more than a mathematical formula that they have all come there to fight for honour, for justice and for glory. He makes fighting with him at Agincourt sound like a privilege. Henry also brings up, once more the motif of the bond between kind and commoner. In the scene before the battle of Harfleur, he unites himself with his men, he says “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
It was then I threw the stone, not to shame you, but to save you from shame.” (369) He was brave enough to tell him, he himself was scared. Even if it meant him losing the name of the man and warrior Finally, Medoto‘s dauntlessness took a dire and treacherous turn when he deviously gave the girl of his dreams to Temas. He did this because he proves himself A warrior and a man. “If in his battle the young Temas proved himself a warrior
This quote relates to this story because Jack had to make a difficult choice, he could have saved himself and be known as a coward or wrest his life to save his men and be known as a hero. As you can see, despite if his men were already dead Jack was going back to save his men. He was ready to give himself, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. When he got back to the prison camp he found a tent full of dismember bodies thinking it was his men until he read the tags. He came to
The Courage of a Man Is being courageous really worth risking said physical well being or social outlook? Really courageous people risk everything for others. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch takes that risk. He takes the Tom Robinson case when he knows that they will lose, and does everything in his power to prove his innocence. Bob Ewell spitting in Atticus’ face does not faze or provoke him into lowering himself to Bob’s level.
34) “in a duel.” This makes the reader feel like his life is at risk. General Zaroff clearly wants to hunt Rainsford. Rainsford must survive on his own. But he does it knowing the risks which makes it so heroic, he risks so much. The fact that Axel knows the risks of what might happen, is what makes this so heroic. David’s, Axel’s and the rest of the group’s lives are all at risk. Another time that Axel shows heroism by resisting social pressure is when he admits to David that he killed Alan: ‘Then I put a new string on my bow’ ‘so it was you!’ ‘It was the only thing to do, Davie. Of course I knew Anne would reckon it was one of you that had done it.
It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped shells, were destroyed by the war.” This quote represents all that Remarque set out to portray with the publication of this novel. He is trying to let the reader feel the betrayal he and his generation felt when they were swept up into a fight which was not there’s. His statement that “death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it…” is a poetic way of expressing the way in which a person when faced with his own demise suddenly understands how real the consequences of deadly combat are. This is a time which brings reevaluation of moral principles as well as harsh reflection upon what life is worth to each and every one of us. The names, dates, and highlights of bureaucratic outcomes as the result of international conflict are what a textbook or traditional history book might provide.
Rather than taking anger out on society itself, heroes overcome obstacles to try to fix the flaws. Overall, victory over human flaws is what now defines the values of today’s
With all of this going on, Victor receives a letter from Clerval saying that he would like him to join him on his expedition. Victor accepts his proposal, and plans on using that time to escape from all of his problems, as he exclaimed “The letter in a degree recalled me to life (Page117).” Victor associates nature with forgetting about anything and everything. Although on the other hand he says, “If I returned, it was to be sacrificed, or to see those whom I most loved die under the grasp of a daemon whom I myself created.” Victor realizes the fatalities of bringing to life a creature that he, himself, is afraid of. Although, it’s too late to start realizing this
