A true meaning of life Have you ever experienced conflict in your life? A conflict that changed your life for the good or bad? In the first story, Marigold, a young child becomes an adult with struggle and resistance. In the second story, The Necklace, a woman realizes the true meaning of life within ten years. In the last story The Most Dangerous Game, A man is forced to survive in ways he didn’t know were possible. Throughout all three stories, the main characters learn a life lesson, grow as people, and change from the experience they have been put in. In the story Marigolds, the main character Lizbeth is experiencing conflict in her life. Her conflict is that she is forced to become an adult. “Each morning our mother and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the bend (Pg50).” The parents did everything they could to support the family. They worked from morning till night just in hopes that their family will prosper. “I scrambled to my feet and just stood there and stared at her, and that’s the moment when childhood ended and womanhood began (pg 58).” Even though Lizbeth is experiencing conflict she is forced to become an adult. “Tonight, we will hunt- you and I.” (pg 34). This statement leaves Rainsford on his feet because he is wondering what the general is planning on “hunting”. Even though Rainsford turns down the offer, he still has a weird feeling that Zaroff is still going to hunt the unknown prey. “your strength and stamina against mine,” (pg. 34) “in a duel.” This makes the reader feel like his life is at risk. General Zaroff clearly wants to hunt Rainsford. Rainsford must survive on his own.
