For the main character paul in the novel his human experiences can sometimes be over dramatized. This is demonstared through the images of pauls bizare and overstated world “ the moths that fludded the fly scream...size of bats”. In this quotation goldsworthy uses exageration which provokes the audience to imagine that there is a hint of something threatening and dangerous ahead. This is futher represented in the sentence “ like some lush green, five o'clock shadow”. The visually realised enviroment brings out more harsh qualities of human characters who inhabit it and further leads us to understand how the individual sees and percieves the world. These statements show that paul has an openess to a new experience, unlike his mother who constantly complains about the heat and his fathers indecitement of this “ town of booze and blow” paul conversely “ loves "the town "at first sight". Peter goldsworthys use of alliteration helps to convey the imagery of pauls fathers thoughts and how he percieves the town of darwin. Unlike the novel the artwork contributes to the responder visualising how the artist was feeling at the time. The main individual in the picture seems to feel like he is going insane and becoming overwhealed. the use of parallel and meduim shows us their tortured state as they are seen screaming in agony. It is unclear what provokes this scream although we know that the emotion felt is powerful enough to provke such a strong reaction. Depending on the individuals reactions to this painting their feelings can vary from discomfort to terror or to feelings of deep sadness. The human experiences reveal here revel how an individual sees and percieves the worlds and the people around them at that particular
