Bobby Wrench National Government September 18, 2012 Gun control The definition of gun control is any law, policy, practice, or proposal designed to restrict or limit the possession, production, importation, shipment, sale, and use of guns or other firearms by private citizens. Most commonly the guns in question are personal firearms, typically handguns and long guns. I am for gun control because I feel that guns are not for everyone. Certain people cannot handle firearms and certain individuals tend to misuse them. Firearms are not something to be played with. They should be used wisely and kept out of harm way. People die every day because others are not responsible and misuse their firearms. I do believe that there should be rules to have or own a firearm such as not having a…show more content…
Some individuals are for gun control and some think that gun control does not make a difference. These are some pros for gun control. Knowing that people who cannot easily obtain a firearm allows people to feel safer. Most violent crimes are committed with firearms and restricting gun ownership will most likely reduce a tremendous amount of crimes. Legalized gun ownership gives a greater chance of being in the wrong hands such as a child, giving it a better chance of resulting in a deadly accident. Crimes and suicide are higher when there is a gun available. Passing restrictive laws against firearms will lower gun crime. There are also several cons against gun control. Banning guns will take away yet another piece of people’s liberty, which is another step to socialism and totalitarians (Messerli). Some individuals say that just because there is a gun control does not mean that criminals will actually not use guns. Carrying a concealed weapon increases the chance of a confrontation escalating and becoming lethal. When afraid, intoxicated, or untrained in conflict resolution is when most firearms are being used
