It’s a fact that there will always be a need for medical attention and healthcare, no matter the state of the economy or the size of a population. The two careers I decided to research are both in the medical field, and both are stable jobs that have an ultimate goal of helping people heal. They are an orthopedic surgeon and a physician’s assistant. I have personal experience with learning about these two jobs- I shadowed numerous orthopedic sports medicine surgeons and physician’s assistants during my senior year of high school as part as an academic internship.
Searching in different schools, I found that this program has a bunch of resources not only solid basics of nursing theory , but also nursing practice as well as clinical experience that will give me the opportunity of been successful in different practice situations. I know that there is so much hard work I have to go through to get to that position though, but I’m already starting it. I have volunteered at the Staten Island University hospital for a year. I worked hard to get good grades into the Medical Program at school. Lucky for me those good grades paid off because I have been a certified medical assistant since I was 16. My Goals and Walden University Vision and Mission As a practicing nurse for over 29 years, there were limited advancement opportunities for nurses. In today’s nursing field there have been vast opportunities for advanced degree nurses. My ultimate professional goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner. In order to obtain my goal, I will have to return to a university to continue my education. I have chosen Walden University due to the flexibility that will allow me to continue to work and ultimately achieve my goal.
Since I became a registered nurse in UK, it was always in my agenda to continue further studies and gain higher qualifications. So, I registered for a course in Open University towards my degree qualifications while I was in Eastbourne working in a nursing home. Then I moved to oxford to work in an acute general medicine where I worked for 19 months while continuing my studies towards my degree. I also did a short course at Oxford Brookes University in addition to my studies at Open University. My study at Open University as well as Oxford Brookes University helped me to enhance my writing and research skills.
