Personal statement

I have always been greatly fascinated by cardiology since my first exposure to an ECG as a first year nursing student. Since I graduated as a registered nurse, I have worked in acute general medicine, a nursing home and cardiac care settings. Comparing my experience in different work speciality, I learned that I enjoy most working in cardiology and CCU. My interest in cardiac nursing has been further stimulated as I have continued to learn more in this subject area through trainings, courses related to cardiac care and my day to day work experience in clinical setting.

Since I became a registered nurse in UK, it was always in my agenda to continue further studies and gain higher qualifications. So, I registered for a course in Open University towards my degree qualifications while I was in Eastbourne working in a nursing home. Then I moved to oxford to work in an acute general medicine where I worked for 19 months while continuing my studies towards my degree. I also did a short course at Oxford Brookes University in addition to my studies at Open University. My study at Open University as well as Oxford Brookes University helped me to enhance my writing and research skills. The courses at Open University also helped me to gain greater understanding for effective communication and management skills which I think are crucial in health care sector today. Courses I have attended in UK universities also helped me to adapt well and understand the different education system from that of my native country.

I moved to London in 2009 from oxford mainly because I was offered job in the area of my interest. While working in cardiology ward and CCU, I had an opportunity to look after patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmias, acute STEMI/NSTEMI, Dilated Cardiomayopathy, Heart failure, cardiogenic shock and respiratory failure.
