Personal Reflection Paper Willie R. Jones AET 505 July 11, 2011 Dr. Donna Rice Personal Reflection Paper The purpose of this paper is to tell the reader why I want to become an adult educator. I will become an adult educator because I do not have patience with children or intermediate age children. I have family members in the teaching profession. Some teaches at elementary schools and one teaches at the collegiate level. I have had conversations with them, and they related patience is something needed if you want to become a good teacher at any level. The level of patience required for collegiate level is less than elementary or intermediate level according to my family members. This is why I chose to teach at the adult level. Once I retire from the military, I intend on using this adult education degree to qualify as a junior college teacher. I have already checked into the hiring process for junior college and if the institution is hiring when I retire I should meet the requirement as an instructor. My secondary thought about using my adult education degree is to work at a business as an instructor. I first started instructing in the military; just teaching classes informing personnel on-the-job as a security forces member. The trend in the security forces career field is to convert these teaching positions from military to civilian. All I need to do is be in the right place at the right time. If this opportunity comes open, I will retire, and pursue one of those jobs. This way it will keep me close to the military. As of right now, I give briefing to senior leadership with the job I have. Therefore, I am accustomed to speaking to small and large crowds. The briefings can last from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. About four years ago, I had a position in which I did weekly briefing lasting up to 30 minutes a session. I felt very comfortable
