“My doctors told me I would never walk again. My mother said I would. I believed my mother.” With hard work, determination and physical therapy, Wilma Rudolph was walking again by the age of 12. While in high school, she joined the basketball team, and was viewed as an outstanding player and also a potential track star. Wilma Rudolph overcame her disability and became a gifted runner.
The teacher was told "J.C." when she asked his name to enter in her roll book, but she thought he said "Jesse". The name stuck and he would be known as Jesse Owens for the rest of his life. His promising athletic career began in 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio where he set Junior High School records by clearing 6 feet in the high jump, and leaping 22 feet 11 3/4 inches in the broad jump. During his high school days, he won all of the major track events, including the Ohio state championship three consecutive years. At the National Interscholastic meet in Chicago, during his senior year, he set a new high school world record by running the 100 yard dash in 9.4 seconds to tie the accepted world record, and he created a new high school world record in the 220 yard dash by running the distance in 20.7 seconds.

Joseph Sulaiman FLP1 “Based on the mission of the FLP, please explain why you want to be part of the Freshman Leadership Program and what unique attribute(s) you will bring to the community.” When I look back on the past few years of high school, a few memories come to mind—the time I fell off the inflatable at homecoming, the time I drove my friend to the Orthopedic Institute because he broke his finger, or the time my marching band won Grand Champions at the USD Quad-State Marching Band Competition. Although these memories sound starkly different, and seem as though they have nothing to do with the Freshman Leadership program, they all share one thing in common, no matter when or where these memories came from, I was always with a group of friends, with people I could relate to, I could count on, and who would look out for me and I for them. Although the name of the Freshman Leadership Program sounds like it entails quite a bit of leadership, I also know that one main proponent of the program is community building. As a living-learning community at Creighton, I know that the Freshman Leadership program is a place where I will make lasting memories and eternal friendships. By basing its activities in a community centered environment, FLP gives freshmen an opportunity not many other organizations can give to their students, and that is the simple idea that putting together a strong group of minds can cultivate great ideas and have a huge influence on a school.
Education and Work Experience Nicholas excelled in high school, graduating valedictorian of his class and earning notice as a middle-distance runner. He accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame and set a school record as part of a relay team, but he found himself hampered by an Achilles tendon injury the summer after his freshman year. With time on his hands and little to do but recover, Nicholas wrote his first novel, The Passing, which was never published. According to Nicholas, it will never be, but the experience began to hone his writing skills. Nicholas graduated from Notre Dame in 1988 with a degree in finance and married his wife, Cathy, in 1989, a year that would also bring a deep sadness to Nicholas' life — his mother passed away at the age of 47 from a horseback riding accident.
Essay When I was in high school, I belonged to Army JROTC, and I was the first sergeant of my company. I led the drills, called cadence, conducted inspections, and I was up for promotion to captain the following school year, but unfortunately my schedule conflicted with other courses that I needed for college, and I was unable to continue in the program. However, Army JROTC was the first course that I ever took that gave me a sense of accomplishment, confidence in myself, and pride in the feeling that comes from being able to set goals, achieving them, and earning the respect of your peers while at the same time doing something in pursuance of a noble cause. I set a goal for myself to go to college and satisfy my educational objectives to prepare myself, so that one day I could prove worthy of becoming a leader in the United States Army. My life experiences and my strong desire to succeed coupled with an unrelenting work ethic and a strong sense of duty and commitment to my country, make me an excellent candidate for officership in the United States Army.
Caitlin Woods Graduation Project 15 November 2011 Journal #1 In this journal I will mainly go through what happens at one of my high school field hockey practices. In the fall, field hockey is the main sport that I participate in. Every year we usually have a competitive team. But, in order to be a top team, we practice intensely at least five times a week. We would leave school, start practice around 3:30 and wouldn’t get done until almost 5:30.
