Performing Arts
Art is termed as an artist’s expression, communication of emotion. So when an artist conveys these expressions by performing live using their body or voice in the presence of an audience then it is called performing art. The various forms of performing art are – dance, music, theatre, drama, mime, puppetry, recitation, speech and circus.
Indian music and dance have a long tradition and are as old as the Vedas. The artists while busy creating their works of art have never consciously thought about producing a work of art and beauty. They were all possessed by single desire which was to convey the religious message in some concrete form. The awareness that music, dance, drama are works of art with certain potential to have deep influence of people, is expressed by Bharatmuni in his natyashastra. The important feature of natyashastra is its recognization of dance, music, drama as works of art. Performing art enables a person to get aware because the dance and drama are performed with the knowledge of the real world or the happening in the society.

Dance refers to human movement either used as a form of expression or presented in a social, spiritual or performance setting.

Definitions of what constitutes dance are dependent on social, cultural, aesthetic artistic and moral constraints and range from functional movement (such as folk dance) to codified, virtuoso techniques such as ballet. Dance can be performed in different styles depending on the culture of a specific region.
