They will also learn how to take a medical history, examine patients, and make a diagnosis. During the next two years, they will work in hospitals and clinics under the supervision of physicians (“Pediatricians”).It takes a lot of effort to become a pediatrician, but it is well worth it for those who enjoying doing the work and those who benefit from the work. If a person wants to become a pediatrician the need to be prepared for the busy lifestyle and long hours of work the job provides. Most pediatricians work between 9 to 12 hours a day and 45 to 60 hours a week. Plus they may even have to work weekends and nights when on call, which can make it difficult to balance their career with family life or personal time (“Pediatrician”).
Being an x-ray technician so much more than just detecting broken bones, it also recognizes diseases. An x-ray technician is like the doctor lookout or support that’s why they take the images and have to follow the doctors’ order. Keeping the patients and yourself secured from the radiation is very important part of the job. The education requirements of an x-ray technician requires a two year associates degree in radiology is a two year associates degree which is commonly held by professional x-ray technician. To enter an associates degree program most schools may require just a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED); while in some states they require technicians to be licensed.
Some potential career paths include physician office or clinic assisting, hospital setting medical assisting, optometry assisting, and chiropractic assisting. This career field has numerous daily hand on patient care requirements such as recording patient history, medication lists, taking vitals, performing EKG’s, administering vaccines, and drawing blood. There are also numerous front office requirements such as “scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purpose” (O-Net). The actual daily requirements on the job will be determined by the position held and the type of specialty that the office specialized in, but all of the skills are essential to know to be gainfully employable in this field. It is predicted by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation that an increase of 14% will occur over the next ten years in the demand of medical assisting positions.
This is the reason why the hospital is in business, to provide medical care to the patient. The two careers I decided to research are both in the medical field, and both are stable jobs that have an ultimate goal of helping people heal. They are an orthopedic surgeon and a physician’s assistant. I have personal experience with learning about these two jobs- I shadowed numerous orthopedic sports medicine surgeons and physician’s assistants during my senior year of high school as part as an academic internship.
