Nhan Pham PSY-Motivation and Leadership Week 2 Assignment DS:D00539252 Types of Power An essential part of leadership or management is to influence the people you manage so that they do what you want them to do. The influence of a leader will depend on a variety of factors including their personality and of those around them. The influence of a leader over his followers is often referred to as power. The type of power that I found most effective is Reward Power. This type of influence is created when the leader is able to offer a reward to his followers for completing tasks or behaving in a certain manner. Rewards in the workplace can take a variety of forms from chocolates, gift vouchers and holidays to promotions, commission and pay raises.…show more content…
The reason for having this power is because I was raised up with this system at home and at schoool. I was being rewarded for doing goods things at home and at school I get rewarded for good grades if I do test well. I do use my reward power now with my family and at work. I have a son and daughter at home. I always have hard time getting them to eat food at home. So what I did was come up with a reward system. I told them that if they each their lunch every other day I will buy them Twix or KitKat. I know that this is their favorite candy. Ever since I did this, their lunch was pretty much eaten. I really like reward power on kids because it focus on the positive. Now that I have more knowledge of what each power are, I will be able to use my leadership skill better. Every situation is required to use different types of power and the types of people I work with. I know that one type of power might work for one but not for others. Therefore having knowledge of Referent, Reward, Expert, Coercive, Legitimate will make you a well rounded leader. Final
