In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two groups that could both be considered menaces to society. The Socs are more of a menace to society. Some say however, that the Greasers are more of a menace to society because of the way they look. The Socs are more of a menace to society because they make unprivileged peoples life distressing and hurt the Greasers both physically and mentally. The Socs are more of a disgrace and menace to society than the Greasers because they make unprivileged peoples life distressing. In other words the Socs picked on the greasers because they aren’t as lucky as the Socs and they knew that they were better off than the Greasers and they used that against them. The Socs could easily do something rebellious and blame it on the Greasers because the police saw them as a pest to society. They were seen as the menace of society, but is all that really true? Sure, they don't look like the nicest people in town, but there is more to them than what meets the eye. For example, Ponyboy Curtis tries to act all tough but on the inside, he is a quiet guy who likes poetry and books. On the other hand, Johnny doesn't look like the kind of guy who would kill someone, which he admitted to Ponyboy when he regained consciousness , but Johnny only did this in defense to save Ponyboy and himself from any more harm. Also, Socs get editorials written about them in the newspaper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers, on the other hand, are known as juvenile delinquents because of their appearance and behaviour. When Socs are the ones who usually start the fights. The Socs are always seen as the nice kids just buy the way that they dress but on the inside they are the ones that should be feared and are the true menaces of the society.
