Aaron Ludwig Witschonke October 26, 2009 Service Learning Project Operation Care Package Issue: I identified that there are many students whose parents are in the Military. Many of the students have brothers, sisters, and/or parents that have gone off to fight the war. This is a very common theme going on throughout all of the schools since the war has been going on for so long now. For a service learning project, I would love to have the students send care packages to our troops and also write letters to them while they are overseas. I believe that the troops and the students will both benefit from this Service Learning Project. I believe that this is the right issue is a major issue and should be addressed more often in…show more content…
If they have canned foods or non perishable foods in their homes already, they can bring those for the care packages. Students can also write letters which are at no cost. Since the students will be bringing in their own items, there will be no fundraising. When students are spending money, it is only a few dollars. This will take the emphasis off of the recognition and place it on the original idea of the care packages and writing to the troops. Potential Outcomes: I think after this project, the students will understand that not all of our service men and women have people to talk to back at home. Some of the soldiers do not have family or anyone to support them and make them feel loved. I think that the school would benefit from this project because they are a patriotic school. There are many students in the school who have fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, or grandparents in the war. Many of the personnel at the school have family members or spouses in the military as well and I feel as though it will help the school grow as a community by coming together to help out the military by sending care packages. The school can set up their own care package drive for donations. They can set up a table where other teachers and classrooms, volunteers and parents can drop off items if they feel the need
