I realize this may not seem as big as of a problem, you know the old saying “Boys will be Boys” well imagine if it were your son getting injured or even getting possible permanent brain damage. For example “4.8 million children between 6 and 13 batter each other’s heads for sheer giddy sake of sport” (“Brain Trauma And The Future Of Youth Football In America”). This starts at a very young age; as a child, Youth Coaches teach their kids to tackle by leading off with your helmet, although it may have been harmless ass little kids, as youth get older and stronger it causes severe damage. Experts say that the damage from concussions can lead to brain trauma “Doctors say if a person suffers a concussion, he is as much as 4 times more likely to get a second” (“Jim Davis: Head injuries in football”). Most players that get a concussion during the course of a game do not even realize to after or days later, making their condition extremely worse.
School administrators all across the country have been noticing that students have been missing too many school days. Because of this occurrence, they needed a solution to their truancy problem. One of the solutions they thought of was to take away the truant student’s driver's license. However, some people believe that school should not have anything to do with licenses. Some people believe the students should have their own choices.
Life lessons involving responsibility, trust and accountability are shown and taught by people who truly care about their team as a whole, not just themselves. In order to achieve greatness in life as an individual, one must be taken out of their comfort zone and take hold of the responsibility in order to accomplish a goal. The football team at Woodinville High School was not very successful during the years of 2009 and 2010. They failed to make playoffs both years and the athletes in the 2011 class knew a call to action had to be done to make positive changes within the program. Growing up as a kid playing sports with most of the guys in my graduating class since I was in elementary school, it was noticed over the years that the senior leadership who most of the athletes are conditioned to look up to, were not exactly leaders.
Given the fact that, for them, the game of football is a job, they should have every expectation that their employer will protect them. Secondly, the effects of the physical contact endured by players usually are not seen until years later. Football players may think that they are fine because they get up and walk away after each hit but it is well known now that football players do suffer major physical effects. These players are suffering some degree of damage with probably every hard contact. In fact, as stated by Epstein, "brain trauma in football may start much earlier, and much less conspicuously, with hits that never raise an eyebrow, much less a penalty flag".
Ken Tingle English 120 October 14, 2011 Steroids: The risk Greg Schwab a former National Football League player and College professor tries to persuade young people to not choose steroids or performance enhancing drugs to improve athletic ability. In his article “Use of Performance-Enhancing Drugs Is a Problem Among Teens”’ He states, “Recent studies have shown as much [as] a 60% increase in steroid use among high school athletes”(Schwab 1). The issue is growing daily and Schwab addresses why steroids are more harmful than beneficial. He addresses his own experience in order to relate with those struggling with the issue. After reviewing the article almost immediately I said
Armed Security in Schools “Why ban one and not the other? And once you start banning semiautomatics, where do you stop?” (Milloy) Society believes the ban of guns is going to stop the violence in America, while most people don’t realize that by banning firearms, we as a society will only increase the power of the criminal over law abiding citizens. The man at the Sandy Hook Elementary School could have been avoid by many ways such as the mother not owning a gun knowing her son had a mental illness, or keeping a tighter lock on the gun in a safe that only she would have access too, finally one of the best ideas to be suggested is the proposal of having armed security guards in school. I believe that we should have armed security in our schools to protect our children by having an armed security as deterrents, President Children get secret service agents yet our children have nothing, finally properly trained and certified school staff to carry firearm. Having an armed security guard or peace officers at our school alone will act as a deterrent towards violent criminals from thinking about going to the school and committing a shooting.

Tran The title of the course: English 20 Date: 04 /05/2014 College Football Should Be Banned In today’s times, the topic whether the college football program should be banned or not is a hot debate in the media. Megan Greenwell (2012) argued that college football shouldn’t be banned because of several positive effects of college football. These effects include helping some students afford the tuition, generating a racial solution and making creative communities. Although Megan Greenwell provided a description about how college football affects college students in such a good way, Buzz Bissinger (2012) provided a much more compelling explanation that college football should be banned because it costs high academic budget and has very low benefits. And College football seriously hurts players by causing head trauma over repetitive hits (Buzz Bissinger, 2012).
While some argue that this action is a violation of student privacy rights, others feel that drug testing will help students make positive and healthy decisions in their everyday lives outside of school. For those students who test positive on any of their drug test, they are kicked off their sport or club for the remainder of the season. Though with approximately the cost of fourty to sixty dollars per hair sample drug tests, the schools cannot afford to test everyone. All students not participating in any sport or extracurricular activity of any kind are excluded from this process, and still then Lake Zurich Community School District only tests fifteen of those students a year. Whether this process is effective or not, many parents and students concern that this action is a violation of student privacy rights and that will draw attention to other students and athletes that people see as "leaders of the school".
After that day school officials have been working with the county sheriffs’ office, conveniently located on campus, to help prevent anything like this from happening again. The school has since decided to perform random drug screenings and property screening monthly as a precaution to keep this sort of event from happening again. These searches could be a great benefit to our school, there would be lass students using drugs, GPA’s would increase, and our school would be a
Should Parents be banned from smacking their children? Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Most of you already know my name and what I’m here for. But in case you didn’t, my name is Mehdi and I’m here to talk about a major issue in our society today, that being the issue of parents smacking their children. Smacking can be defined as “to strike someone, usually with the palm of the hand as a punishment.” Going back twenty to forty years, smacking wasn’t even an issue, with over 90% of people smacking their children.
