Moeller 1 Colby Moeller 9-14-09 English 1100: Composition 1/ 2:00 P.M. Response Paper #1 “My Voice” I have chosen to write about “One Voice,” a narrative written by Susan G. Madera. I chose to write about this particular narrative because she had such passion and never gave up when things got difficult. She pushed herself through anything that seemed impossible to overcome. She worked to get past dilemmas she encountered and physically forced her self to try and make herself a better individual and overcome hard times. I have chosen this narrative because I have also had lots of trouble with issues in the past, and as an individual, I had to work to overcome these issues. One impossible hard time for me happened to deal with my schoolwork and education. Growing up I was always an outdoors type of person. I would wake up and enjoy the fresh air before I had to go to school and be confined to one room. All throughout the school day, I would daydream about fishing and hiking and all the other pleasures the great outdoors had to offer. Madera’s narrative “One Voice” because her story caused me to reflect on an experience that I encountered earlier in my life. I will never forget the transition from fifth to sixth grade. It was an obstacle in my life that I thought I could not overcome; but I did and I believe it has made me into a much better individual today. Madera is a woman that battled with vigorous obstacles in her life. She never gave up when things became rough. I admire Madera and everyone else in this world that never gives up continues his or her pursuit against life’s many challenges. In the wake of every challenge there are lessons learned and rewards. My reward for studying hard in high school was the acceptance letter sent to me from East Carolina
