In the masterpiece ‘On the Waterfront’ directed by Elia Kazan, shows a wonderful story of a man standing up to a tyrannical rule. For the story of this film is all about the conscience and that is shown throughout the whole movie. And the story about the conscience is based on the past experience of Kazan himself when he had agreed to testify the former associates who were involved with the Communist Party and became a pariah in left-wing circles. Terry Malloy, played by Brando can be considered as the avatar of Kazan in his past. Kazan’s life was a difficult one, full of many difficult decisions. One where he had made the decision to testify and this had changed his life forever. He had testified about his own priors to the Communist Party and he had also named other people…show more content…
This was a magnificent piece which was played really well by Brando. Brando also continues to play in many well done scenes such as when he is with Edie, which shows his really sensitive side behind the hardened exterior. Another strong scene is where a man was crushed by the hold of the ship. And the priest, played by Karl Malden, says a really strong line. ‘If you don’t think Christ is down here on the waterfront, you got another thing coming’. These scenes have a really strong and magnificent impact that continues to resonate throughout the whole entire film. ‘On the Waterfront’ is a magnificent film because it is created by Kazan and Schulberg. The two people who had lived through the real thing. The actors, Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Rod Steiger and Eva Marie Saint played their roles so well that it game the characters a strong presence in the film. No wonder this film was nominated for 11 Oscar awards and had won eight. And this movie today, although many years old, still shows a strong impact thanks to its fine acting and
