State Troopers willingly put themselves at risk for injury and or death to protect the public from harm. CAREERS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE: LAW ENFORCEMENT New York State Police have many job duties that range from writing tickets to speeding motorists to protecting their governors and other visiting officials. They are not bound by the limits of the city but have the entire state as their jurisdiction. State police do not enforce local ordinances as a rule but will, when needed, assist in local investigations. While there are many police agencies that require only a high school diploma there are also many that require at least an associate’s degree or college credit equivalent.
Fairness is being open minded and giving everyone an equal chance. Caring is being kind and compassionate toward other people. Lastly citizenship is cooperating in school and community. Also these characteristics can represent a hero because this shows that the heroes are charismatic and responsible in their own lives. The way we should react to crisis is to stay calm and get a grip of the situation.
There became a big break down between police and communities. ( “Police: History-Policing Twentieth Century America” the Reform Era (n.d.) Once the officers were placed in patrol cars people of the communities had to call and have an officer come to his or her house, to resolve a problem When this happened, it made people feel more isolated from the officers. This started bringing problems around on how citizens feel toward police in general. When new technologies started coming around the big impact between citizens and police was not understood in the beginning but years later the impact of the new technologies is understood. In present time technology is still evolving and the use of cameras on street corners have come in to play.
As information comes from the Police Commissioner it flows all the way down the chain of command, and the information is then passed to the police officers on local patrol. Now information can flow up the chain of command, like police reports, recent crime evidence or facts. Formal channels are naturally rigid, and any changes or modifications must be reviewed within these same channels. If new situations arise, the modification process may not be able to keep pace with the need for change (Wallace and Roberson,
Branch Scenario: Unit 2 Brytnei Morris January 21st, 2014 CJ340: Applied Criminal Justice Ethics Branch Scenario: Unit 2 For this week’s Branch Scenario provided in Unit 1, we encountered a situation which occurs pretty often within the police department. The scenario starts off with myself beginning a new position granted to me as a narcotics detective assigned to a precinct with a rampant drug problem. At the first briefing performed, the squad commander insists that the unit’s “extraordinary” tactics were helping in the declining rate of street crimes and homicides. After the briefing, I ask my partner about the previous remark made about the new tactics used aiding in the decreased rates. My partner explains that occasionally, the unit must plant evidence to arrest top-level dealers and use force to gain information from suspects.
Now I watch shows like “Law and Order: SVU” and I still get the same feeling as I did back when I was little. I know a lot about the Criminal Justice field, especially the career of a Police Officer. I gained a lot of my knowledge about the job through both of my KSCADE – Criminal Justice classes through the local technical colleges. The necessity for police officers in today’s society is rapidly growing. Every day the world’s population is growing, which means more crimes will be committed, which also means the need for more police officers will be increasing.
Police Operations Every day while driving to work, school, or running errands, people will run into police officers patrolling the streets of their hometown. There are many other operations that make up the daily duties and assignments of a police officer. Police operations can range from investigating a homicide or fraud to serving warrants for drug dealers or traffic violations. Police have a challenging job that is almost never routine. Patrolling the streets is the center of policing in the United States.
Another characteristic of President Lincoln’s leadership style was that he displayed good moral character. He was honest, fair, sincere and trust worthy. Those who worked under him knew that they could trust President Lincoln because he was consistently fair and was fair and decent both when congratulating and disciplining his subordinates. Another leadership quality that Lincoln possessed that leaders should incorporate into their practices is to set goals and be result-oriented. Setting goals give followers a common end to work towards.
February of 1999 and man named Amadou Diallo was unarmed when he was fired at 41 times by police officers, and even saying that the mayor of New York City, at the time, still were acquitted, stating that “ Probably until the day I die, I will always give the police officers the benefit of the doubt” (Progressive, 2000, p. 19) There continue to be frequent reports of unjustified police shootings, with officers firing at unarmed suspects, fleeing from non-violent crimes, at the end of pursuits, during traffic stops or in other circumstances. In Kansas City 1998 a 13 year old black child, Timothy L. Wilson was driving a friends pick-up truck, and was shot dead at the end of a brief chase. All the officers cleared of any wrong-doing. California in 1999 during a narcotics raid SWAT fired at an elderly man, and no drugs were found during the raid. In Chicago in 1998 police officers shot and killed 71 people and in the same year 7 people were killed in Tulsa, Oklahoma (Amnesty International, 1999, p. 23).
+ The second factor is his refreshing leadership style. With friendly attitude, he has changed the way people work by empowered and energized them. Kapicic gave his employees autonomy to do their work and encouraged people to take charge of their own problems. According to John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”. Kapicic always listened to his staffs, created a best environment for them to work and provided the necessary motivation at the right time.
