Ode to Michael “Hi, my name is Michael, Nice to meet you.” I will spend all my life repeating this sentence to people, hoping that my correspondent doesn’t utters the words “I have a [Relative] named Michael!” Now, because of my name's wretched generic nature, their opinion of me will be forever skewed. Such as a child named Adolf would be tainted with hate after the second world war , or like a child named Abraham would be trusted by others. Sadly, my name is no different. The name Michael will forever haunt me with a reminder of the person I'm not. These revelations got me thinking; what was the origin of Michael? If I were the same as my name's meaning, perhaps it is others that are different. My hands glided across the keyboard, like an alpine skier dodging Moguls on their final run of the day. There my answer was, sticking out on the screen as clear as day. I was horrified. “Who is like god?”(Wikipaedia.com) I thought this couldn’t be right. So, I searched again. “From the Hebrew מִיכָאֵל name meaning 'Who is like god?'”(behindthename.com) it seemed my fate has been handed me on a silver platter. I was doomed to failure of my task. Like Sisyphus rolling his boulder up a triangle shaped mountain, or a child with a dream to grow up to be a wizard. The truth is, my name is quite ironic. I want nothing to do with any god, let alone be like him. It gives me a pain in my chest knowing my name gives me a fate that I don't even like, let alone fulfill. Besides the soul shattering meaning of my short books title*, I have been quite happy with the name “Michael”. The name Michael has a history filled with riches and success. Some people that come to mind are: Michael J. Fox being the star of the movie Back To The Future, that grossed over 380 million 2 dollars, Michael Jordan who was the greatest basketball player, and famous singer song writer
