The unsighted acceptance of traditions and strict social conformity in The Chrysalids leads to the persecution and destruction of fellow human individuals. In John Wyndham's The Chrysalids, characters are willing to go to extremes in order to keep the old ways. According to old Jacob, they are afraid of having another "dose of Tribulation," (88). The blind acceptance of traditions leads to the destruction of the Waknuk society. In The Chrysalids, it can be seen that Joseph Strorm is very faithful to Waknuk's traditions, and there are many points that can prove it.

The struggle to act upon his father’s murder is a key factor in Hamlet’s disillusionment with the world. The Elizabethan period was a time that demanded revenge and this is even true in our present time to some extent. An eye for an eye approach was considered socially correct which Hamlet initially suggests ‘May sweep to my revenge’. Since Claudius has become the new king, he is considered a false king and imposter to the throne by Hamlet and this leads to the collapse of the natural hierachy that was in place. He states ‘tis an unweeded garden’ alluding to the fact that a false king leads to corruption which finally leads to the collapse of the hierarchy.

This is a far more delicate way of saying if you end up with ignorance you were not highly favored by God, but if you have knowledge you were and will be favored by god and will end up in heaven. Ignorance is similar to a song written by Mumford and son “Babel” which is the examination of the bourgeois mindset. They comment on the pelagian nature of society, they are building their own 'tower of babel' because they see the society collapsing behind their progressive thought, "I write home laughing, 'look at me now,' the walls of my home come crumbling down." He "goes along" with this mindset; all his life his "greed and pride" has been nursed by society and he accepts this mentality for its face value. He is promised success, which they will "slip into the cloud."
