Much Ado about Nothing was written by William Shakespeare as a comedy, but it could have very well been turned into a tragedy comparable to Othello. In Othello, Desdemona becomes a leading part of Iago’s plot to take down Othello for not giving Iago the job that he wanted. At first Iago insinuates and makes innuendos to Othello that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio, and Othello doesn’t believe Iago. Othello says “Villain, be sure thou prove my love a whore, Be sure of it; give me the ocular proof; or, by the worth of mine eternal soul, thou hadst been better have been born a dog than answer my wak’d wrath”(3.3.360-364). Desdemona accidentally drops a handkerchief that Othello had given her.
489 lines (161-163). That was a line in the book Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare. That quote was said by Romeo in the very beginning of the book because he is so love sick over this girl named Rosaline. Throughout the book Romeo and Juliet, both Romeo and Juliet’s perspective on love changes along with their personalities. As I said before in the beginning of the book Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is gloomy and feeling hopeless about love because Rosaline (the women he “loves”) is not going to get married.
After being tricked by Don John into thinking that Hero is unfaithful to Claudio, by witnessing Hero (actually Margaret) having an affair with Borachio, Don Pedro and Claudio are determined to embarrass Hero in front of the whole crowd at the wedding. Upset and angered that his friend has been betrayed, Don Pedro exclaims, “What should I speak? I stand dishonour’d, that have gone about to link my dear friend to a common stale” (Shakespeare 48-49). At this point in the play, the reader has already seen multiple examples of how Don Pedro’s acts of kindness towards his close friend have gone horribly wrong. Don Pedro’s loyalty towards his friend Claudio has portrayed him as an insensitive character regarding his comments about Hero.
The Friar responds with, “Young men’s love then lies/ Not truly in their hearts but, in their eyes jesu maria, what the deal of brine/ Hath washes thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline!”(2.3.68-90). In the first act, Romeo thought himself to be in love with Rosaline. Romeo had been distraught over the fact that his beloved Rosaline was going to become a nun. Romeo would never be able to love Rosoline, or be with her. Friar Lawrence makes fun of Romeo saying that young men only love what they see.
II. Lysander and Hermia demonstrate the beginning stages of love or passionate love. a. Shakespeare criticizes love from the viewpoint of Hermia’s father, Egeus as well as being challenged by society itself. b. The challenges of love are being portrayed when Hermia’s father, Egeus’s, refuses her to marry Lysander but Demetrius (Carter, 2).
Romeo is discreetly referencing the prologue, where the audience learns that Romeo and Juliet are fated for misfortune. But Romeo also feels Fortune is being especially cruel; he just got married, and he might be put to death. His words
He was named Puck, in tradition to the fairies qualities and attributes. Puck was given a position in the fairy court, his job was to “jest to Oberon, and make him smile” (2, 1, 44). Puck also contributes a lot to the story line because he was sent by Oberon to fetch the flower that was hit by Cupid’s arrow, so he could make a love potion to distract Titania from the little Indian boy of whom Oberon was jealous of, and to also fix the four Athenian lovers who sort of formed a love square. But being the fool he is he accidentally puts the love charm on Lysander instead of Demetrius. He also turns another fool’s, of whom we will speak of later, Nick Bottom, head into the head of an ass, so that Titania would be distracted from the little Indian boy.
In the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, it is true that “the course of true love never did run smoothly”. The two couples Hermia and Lysander and Helena and Demetrius both experience many difficulties in trying to attain love. The law of Athen’s, gender and Robin Goodfellow’s acts all play a role in the couples’ pursuit for love. The law of Athen’s in the play didn’t permit a female to marry the man of her choice unless he was the same choice of her father. “As she is mine I may dispose of her”, Egeus, Hermia’s father, says this because in the past a daughter was regarded as a father’s property and was forced to obey her father.
This essay will discuss and highlight Othellos character and actions. There will be a contrast made between Othello at the beginning of the play and his downfall throughout the play. As seen in the play Othello’s love for Desdemona is an intense deep love. This is proven when Barbanzio (Desdemonas father) accuses Othello of using witchcraft to make her fall in love with him. Othello responds saying “The trust, the office i do hold of you not only take away but let your sentence even all upon my life”. Here he is saying that is Desdemona claims that her fathers accusations are right then they may not only take his position buth is life included.
By saying these words to her he is crassly calling her a harlot, and making to appear that he never really loved her. Ophelia made one decision and that was to love Hamlet, and now he is using her actions to make her feel inferior and sinful. Up to this point in the play, Shakespeare depicted Hamlet as a mad man hell-bent on avenging his fathers suspect death, however: his cruel outburst at Ophelia is not a turning point in the story in which he goes from being a hero to being a cold-hearted oppressor. Hamlet tells Ophelia that she will have to ‘marry a fool’ because ‘wise men’ would know better than to marry her; he yells at her ‘get thee to a nunnery’, and yet the way it fits into the plot makes it seem almost expected. As the plot progresses Ophelia begins to lose her mind, resulting in her eventually suicide, but at no point his Hamlet called out for his harsh words against her in a significant way.
